Some Weekend Pictures

Other than
a few exceptions, the roses haven’t been much to look at the last few weeks. We’ve
had a lot of strong storms, very high humidity and the Japanese Beetles have
been here since late May. What the
storms didn’t ruin, blackspot didn’t defoliate or the humidity didn’t make
ball, the beetles have been devouring. Beetles
are still here, but slowing down enough to get some buds and blooms in spite of
them. Still very humid, but the storms
have settled down a bit and some of the ballers are actually opening instead of
rotting now and blackspot is surprisingly getting better for the moment, too. Nothing spectacular to show, but I’m excited
to have more blooms, so posting some pictures I took this weekend anyway.

Even at
their peak, the beetles couldn’t keep up with these champion bloomers:

Mrs.
B.R. Cant

Madame
Lombard

Champneys'
Pink Cluster

Perle d'Or

Caldwell
Pink

And
a few others now escaping the bugs and weather:

Etoile
de Mai (new this year)

Autumn
Sunset (new this year and growing like crazy)

Lady
Hillingdon

to be continued...
