Laurier, I think I can explain what you are missing. Northwest Florida is very similar to my climate and not at all like Central or South Florida which rarely has frosts or freezes. The difference is that you have your seedlings in a more controlled (warmer temperature) environment. The person producing the video is obviously letting them grow outside in pots all year around with minimal protection from the cold. This means that they will definitely go into dormancy from around Thanksgiving (or perhaps before) until March each year. In pots, they will be dormant even longer than they would in the ground. Certainly, seeedlings will bloom in less time if kept in a warmer environment with more light than our winters tend to provide. The tradeoff is in the numbers of seedlings that you can grow outside, in pots, as opposed to inside or in a temperature controlled greenhouse under lights. I hope that helps you to understand the difference in growth rates. Larger numbers with slower growth outside vs. smaller numbers inside, under lights... They appear to be giving the pod parent name with no indication of pollen parents. In my opinion, that is better than giving a pod parent name and saying it is crossed with the pollen of an unlikely cross due to insufficient controls and documention. We all have a lot to learn. I started learning hybridizing daylilies. That made it easier to understand hippeastrum. BTW, daylilies are the same in regards to dormancy in seedling years. If you can manage to keep them warm and under lights during that first year or two, they will bloom much quicker. Hope that helps... Ann

To save the videos from You Tube go to this site (KeepVid) and read the instructions at the very top of the page. You can save the videos in low quality mode or in high quality mode. I suggest the latter. After that you just need software to convert them to DVD format and burn them to a DVD disk. To learn about making DVDs the site below is very helpful. I have forgotten how I ended up on YouTube when I was researching granite, but I stumbled across Granite Shorts. This is a series of short videos covering all sorts of information about granite. They are produced by a granite slab yard and I highly recommend them for those of us in the learning stages. One of my favorites is Episode 7 where he shows how he worked with a customer to lay out her template. Some of the information is elementary but with such an expensive purchase, it's worth learning all you can. It's fun to get a preview of what to expect of the process. You can also do this: If you just want the picture on your computer, follow these steps: -Right click on the picture -From the menu that pops up choose "Save image as..." -A window titles Save Image pops up. Navigate through to where you'd like the photo to go. (Desktop is often best , just for the fact that the photo is easy to find once copied to your computer. From there you can just click and drag to the folder you want it in.) Also rename the photo at this time if you'd like. -Click Save. To email the photo, you should see somewhere on your email page a place where you can add a file to send. Choose to do that, then in the window that comes up choose the photo from your desktop.
