Quartzite- truth- honed vs polished ?

We haven't decided on the quartzite yet, but had some priced. So, our fabricator said that we shouldn't get honed- it stains. Then I read all over here that honed scratches but polished leaves water marks and etches. We are considering Taj Mahal, Kalahari, Parthenon or Mustang. Now I am terribly confused. I don't want Quartz as I love natural stone and granite now seems just too busy and heavy looking. Any advice? Kitchen start is held up right now as I can't decide what to choose or the look I want. Thanks!

If you want a matte finish, get Corian, please. Stone and engineered stone needs polish, generally speaking.

Does anyone have any updates about the honed quartz? I was looking at calcatta vicenza in matte ( honed) because when i went to MSI in Norwood, MA, I found that the matte wasn't as busy of a pattern and it was a lighter, more soothing design. After reading these reviews i'm nervous about the honed but I do like it better than polished, and I find that polished is more of an ivory and the matte is more of a white. Please help! I'm meeting tonight with the contractor.

True quartzite does not etch. You should test for yourself to know for sure. Check out karin_mt's threads about testing quartzite. She is a geologist and very helpful in teaching people about countertop materials and their properties.

We have it in polished with SW Thunder Gray on the bottom cabinets and we get tons of compliments on it. I was so scared but once it was installed I fell in love with it. It is beautiful!! So, so happy we went with it.

Honing, leathering or polishing is best done at the quarry with the machinery to handle large slabs of stone. Some large fabricators have equipment to alter slabs at their workshops, before they are cut or installed, but it isn't happening in your home with quartzite slabs that have been cut and installed. If someone says they can ... make sure to have a written contract and check that they have insurance by calling their insurance provider! Buyer beware.

I’m super curious what you ended up buying and what do you love/hate about it now?
We are debating quartzite polished or leathered (which these slabs seem more honed)

Honing does open up the pores of the quartzite but they should be putting on a good sealer. Quartzite is harder then granite so not sure how it could stain. Might I suggest you get a sample piece of it honed and take it home. Put red wine, oil etc and it and let it sit over night. See what happens.

I put in a honed finished quartzite countertop, island and backsplash and will be putting in a leathered quartzite floor in the kitchen. Applying Tenex Ager enhancer/sealer to it. Looks great.
