Ok to use fabric weed blocker in garden?
Comments (2)Hi hayleybritt and welcome, I'm not one who likes to use weed barrier liners. In my experience, they make more work than they save. You could give old sheets or other fabrics a try, but my feeling is that you would be better served not using them. In time soil blows into any mulch you may have used on top of the fabric - then weed seeds can geminate in that soil/growing medium. The edges of weed barrier can "float" up over the course of a couple of seasons and then you have all this fabric sticking up all over the place. When you go to dig in the area (move a shrub or install a new planting) you end up pulling the fabric up here and there and it can turn into a mess. I guess I prefer to not have a layer of fabric in my soil - it gets in the way of things and often ends up looking bad. If I were going to use a weed barrier I'd want to use something durable - I think old sheets will degrade pretty rapidly and then you will be stuck trying to dig it all out to clean up the mess. Those are a few of my thoughts on the matter. Perhaps others who like to use weed barrier fabrics in their garden beds will chime in with some other opinions. Comments (6)Here's why a seam at the sink is not a good idea-what if you get granite Cut #1 or #2 in boxerpup's posting on the link below(drawings at the bottom of her post under the photos) What are you going to do if the stuff they use to fill the seam starts to break down or isn't applied properly? That's what happened to my sister's granite which is seamed smack dab in the middle of her sink--let's not even talk about how during this economic crisis her granite fabricator filed for bankruptcy, reopened under a different name, won't honor the warranty & how no other granite fabricator will even touch it to make the repair! You wouldn't believe how much buildup she gets in that crack--can you just imagine the potential for bacteria growth?!? Why take the chance of putting a seam in a high traffic/food/water area if you don't have to? Plus not all seams are as well done as cloud_swift's is in the above pic. Just my $0.02. Comments (3)Well, I found a FabriCut outlet in Pryor. I thought Moni said the one she went to was really great. If you're around, Moni (or anyone else who has been), is that the place? I've tried searching for that old conversation but I can't find it in the archives. Thanks! Julie...See MoreOK stone fabricators--this one will make you cringe!
Comments (5)I'm not a fabricator, but it would seem that 1) people do sometimes tear out slabs and put in new ones, so it could be done (theoretically); 2) one would need to assess the worst case scenario, i.e. slab gets ruined and you need to replace entire slab and maybe do some repair to island 3) so, I would want to know before I even started whether any consecutive slabs are still available, in case you need a total replacement; and 4) what's the maximum amount of money and distress it could possibly cost; and 5) does anything about the current sink's plumbing preclude getting the sink you really want installed; and 6) Is there some other area in which you could make use of a partial slab, should this one be damaged and need re-cutting? The reason I'm breaking down the question like this is because I've read about people ordering slabs torn out recently, but I do not hear about what was involved or whether the old slabs were reused elsewhere or destroyed. o, I'm curious, too....See MoreMaWizz
