Need more info.... What did you do after it was knocked over? Is the plant still connected to the root mass? What happened with the soil....how is it now? Have you watered? Is it wet, dry, moist now? Did you change it's location? I will say this- BNF are sensitive to touch. The leaves will bruise if you brush up against it. While it doesn't require the humidity of some of it's cousins, it does appreciate it. They do best with moderate to bright light. They don't like it when you get water in their crowns! Rot, rot, rot and more rot. LOL

We have a small canopy over our front door and I noticed a small nest forming. It is a favorite place for flying insects to build a nest. Often it has been wasps, but this year, it was yellow jackets. There is a perennial bed 5ft from the front door. It had not gotten very big yet, less than 6 inches across, my husband just knocked it down with a yardstick and managed to get off without a sting. I anticipate every year there is going to be a nest there, but I was watchful in the spring. This nest started in July and by then I wasn't paying attention. I wonder if there is something organic I can coat the surface of, in those corners where they always start that might discourage them from building? Vinegar? Soap? A spray of garlic/red pepper that would hopefully dry on the surface? But I would imagine it would diminish it's effect in a short amount of time.

OK, now this is getting really interesting. I haven't decided on a refrigerator model yet, and the wall can be shortened or moved as needed, so I'll be sure to confirm that the refrig door can be opened enough to be able to fully access the slideout drawers. I certainly don't need the door to open 180 degrees, maybe I just got used to a 90 degree opening previously. Another thing I was thinking, maybe a built-in would look and work nicely in that location. I kind of wonder that maybe I might not like the refrig protuding too much as I'd prefer it not be visible from the living room. But that's a minor issue. The key for me is having those slideout drawers easily removable. buehl, that's great to know that the Advantium OTR might fit just fine. That would be perfect. As for fitting 3 people at the end of the island, that's a good point. I'm going to bring that issue up with the KD. vizslalover, thanks for the photo of your MW placement, everything looks great. In fact those are similiar countertops and cabinets I'm looking to have as well. Since your MW is flush to the wall, are you able to open it easily? Is 90 degrees enough? rhome410, that's something I'd consider doing as well, a nice idea. hollylh, thanks for the advice about zones. The other side of the "L" has the DW so I did try to separate the zones somewhat.

The term for a drain not in the center of the sink is "offset drain". Usually an offset drain is considered an advantage because (A) it allows more room under the sink for your disposal, cleaning supplies, etc. than a drain that is smack dab in the middle of your base cabinet; and (B) it allows you to set down a roasting pan, dishes, etc. in the sink without covering the drain. This may seem like a minor convenience, but once you've lived with it, you never want a center drain again. I have a large batch feed disposal under my sink (batch feed disposals have larger/wider chambers than continuous feed disposals), and there was no problem with its installation whatsoever. Perhaps the reviewer had a poor drainpipe outlet location from the wall. Also, no one knows whether the review you saw actually was more of a problem with the height of the drain outlet at the wall than it was the sink's drain location. We have seen on this forum issues where the disposal outlet ends up being lower than the outlet from the wall which is bad. This happens because sinks are deep, plus there is the thickness of the countertop, plus the reviewer may have had a very large disposal. A solution would be the Insinkerator Evolution Compact disposal which has a smaller chamber, while still being a powerful 3/4 hp disposal. As to the faucet, the issue there is more about the space behind the sink, or the lack thereof, than the sink's drain location. If you have a sink that is deep front to back, and not much room behind it, and you have the kind of faucet that is a one-handle style with the handle on the side, that handle needs a lot of clearance, you will have a problem. I am not sure what other issues could arise that would require the faucet be installed to the side because of the drain location. Really, I would never get a sink without an offset drain. Others may not find it essential, but I love my sink's offset drain for the reasons I stated above. If you have a plumber installing your sink and your disposal, have him take a look at your plumbing coming out of the wall before you purchase your sink and disposal, and he'll tell you if there will be a problem or not.
