my plants are being eaten
Comments (6)I sneaked out to the patio last night, when it was already dark, armed with a flashlight, because the leaves on one of my brugs got eaten, slowly but surely. Of course that's easy to do for me, since I don't have many brugs and I watch them like a hawk. There was a new large hole. I lifted up the leaf, and there was a big, fat, green caterpillar, munching away. Needless to say, HE IS NO MORE.He was the ONLY one! Ingrid...See Morebell pepper plant leaves being eaten
Comments (1)The holes are done by chewing insects that are probably long gone. The crinkled leaves are caused by the sucking of the plant juices by the transparent insects, aphids. Smash them with your fingers or spray the underside of the leaves with a jet spray of water to wash them away....See MoreTired of my plants being eaten
Comments (2)Heres something that was orig posted by another member, never had to try it but they say it works great. Here it is: Interesting Idea for pest control clip this post email this post what is this? see most clipped and recent clippings Posted by Cdfortin GA (fortind89@yahoo.com) on Tue, Dec 27, 05 at 22:58 Hi all, I hope you are having a good holiday season. Today I was sifting through some European sites and came across an interesting idea. How many of you have ever had a pest infestation inside one of you vivs (ants, millipedes, slugs...)? Here's a method that might work to completely eliminate them: 1) remove all animals (that you want to survive) from the viv 2) get a big chunk of dry ice, put it in a bowl of hot water, and place the bowl in the viv 3) completely seal off the viv and wait So...all the beasties die from CO2 poisoning, without adding any harmful chemicals to the vivarium. The idea behind this method is CO2 production. There are many other ways to create the same effect, such as CO2 canisters, vinegar and baking soda, yeast and sugar... What do you all think? I'm not sure it would work with some of the peskier creatures (like cockroaches), but it's definitely something to try before you strip the entire viv down and start over again....See Moreplant being eaten
Comments (1)I have found that DRIED BLOOD sprinkled around the base of plants, works for keeping bunnies away. I usually buy "Espona" brand in a 5-pound bag at Mennes. It is a very high source of nitrogen, so you need to use it sparingly to avoid burning your plants. It is stinky enough that I think the bunnies don't like it. Jerry...See Morecrushedpurple
