At Hosta Choice Gardens, where time stood still...for three hours
Comments (35)-Vanessa, thank you. I would also love to hear what you brought home with you! Did Glenn's enthusiasm for The Minnesota Mafia get you too? Lol. BTW...Did you see the kittens? OMG, I wanted to take the little blonde ones home! When you post your newbies, add Cabbage Patch too? I've been meaning to ask you how it's doing? Mine seemed "tame" last year. Yours? -BC, I said Hi to Glenn for you and he had a big grin on his face when he realized who it was I was referring to. Such a friendly and likeable fellow. :). I asked how he fertilizes and it's all granular, time release little green bb's! -Jerry, yes, ecstatic is a good description...about everything! I'm not sure how many he actually dug up for me (I was all over and everywhere) but it is standard practice for them to be potted up in new pots, and filled with a freshly mixed, lovely fluffy mixture that resembles my own! Mini Skirt was dug right up from a growing bed! I was very lucky to get it that day. Lets talk budget then, lol! I took a set amount in cash (more than I needed) and when my order was rung through, which included 4 more hostas than my list, I still had $ left over. i laughingly said, "I can't go home with this money, I brought it to buy hostas so... I need to get more hostas!" Two more hostas, a bit of fertilizer and I was efficiently shopped out, Lol - my job was done! So....Attach a box like Paula and her husband had, got on that bike, and head on over to Glenn's! There are many gorgeous hostas waiting for you! -NHL, thank you for that and yes, I'll be posting progress pics for sure. Golden Gate will get brighter, Beet Salad beefier, Jujen will finish unfurling as will its Mama .. and the list goes on... -Dave, Mickfields is enormous! Almost too large an assembly? it gives a totally different vibe, doesn't it? We have one or two that are huge, full nurseries (trees/shrubs/vines/perennials of all sorts) but have gone overboard, IMO on all kinds of extraneous non-gardening doo-dads, including clothing! and don't specialize in hostas but at least offer a broad enough selection. I prefer the home-based or family-run businesses/nurseries for the personal approach and display gardens. We need more like them. The hosta business has been booming for many years in North America. I don't think it will ever "go out of style". Regardless of what some say, the hosta business is a cash cow...but you have to love hostas a lot not to mind all the countless hours of work....See MoreHosta Choice Gardens - June 2015
Comments (13)Lol...it's not my doing, Vanessa, honestly, it's what Glenn wrote in his email to me, lol. This is too funny...think he's too busy over there? Lol He said he'd take a look at the pictures you posted here, so I saved him the trouble and sent him your pic...hope you don't mind. Haven't heard back ... probably next day or so....Too funny, right? Maybe someone (a midnight elf) else planted the vase and he didn't notice? I really like that vase. Maybe I'll find a beauty this coming week when I visit a few "garden paraphernalia" shops in Collingwood....See MoreAwesome August Order...from Hosta Choice
Comments (16)Bernd, most of the time, we get a "lot of bang for the buck" but it all depends where we buy our hostas...but I really agree with your comments!!!! ;-) BC, thank you for using our posts as a segue into your new introductions. I felt a thrill when I started to read your post, starting with the words Hosta Choice, then the photo of the opened box (heart raced) followed by pics of the hostas. Each word built the suspense until the finale, the reveal of potted hostas, read like a terrific book! I so enjoyed this voyage and I look forward to next year's sequel! Now, to the hostas.... Wow! They look absolutely wonderful (of course - they are from HC!) in every way and certainly Not the way you would expect them to look (even with Glenn saying they didn't look their best) at the end of August. Love your choices which are new to me with one exception. I am also partial to "movement" hostas with their ripples, waves, etc.. :) Friesen Waving Steel jumps out at me as does Winter Frost. Both look like shiny ones...I will google all and check the HLibrary. I'll be following your subsequent comments re Sahara Nights also. A really nice and interesting order, BC! The only one I have is Arctic Blast so I'll post two pics - one when new and how it looks today. Thought I would add how it looked the following spring to tantalize your visual, lol! Today...but I need to take a new photo. Brb....See MoreHosta camera of choice ?
Comments (7)I got an Olympus with all the bells and whistles and find the cheap little Canon SX170IS takes pictures every bit as well with just the automatic setting. reason for buying was McTavish had the same one and her pictures are always perfect. Myrle will not stand for less then perfect. Think the price was under well under $200 on sale...See MoreMichelle z6a pei can
