I have one that I got from Arhaus that looks similar to the pictured one. I sit in it all the time. And yes my 80 y/o FIL sits there when he comes over because he can get up easily. While probably not as comfy as by big Barcalounger was, I could sleep here if needed. My does recline fairly far back.

K9Arlene, that's an excellent point, but alas, I live in a small town and will have to order it sight unseen. I've seen the fabric other places, so I know what that's like, at least.

What is the brand and model name of the recliner shown?

It's the Aviary recliner by Porter International Designs, something that only seems available under that label from Wayfair. La-z-boy has an identical one called the Charlotte, but it gets poor reviews and is quite a bit more expensive. I'd rather buy a cheap chair cheaply, I think.

I don't anticipate this getting heavy use. I wouldn't use it at all except maybe once or twice for sleeping, so it would mostly just be used by guests who don't want a low seat.

I have one that looks just like that, but in a different fabric. I bought it when I had to sleep on my back after surgery, impossible for me in a normal bed. I'm only 5 feet tall so the recliner fits me. It's not that comfortable for sleeping, but better than trying to prop oneself up on pillows. The big overstuffed ones are much better for sleeping as they recline to a flatter position, but I dislike the way they look.

I can see where someone of limited mobility might have difficulty raising themselves from the farthest reclining position, but I have no problem. I think the seat is fairly low at about 16", but you have the arms to push yourself upright.

These days, I use it in the first reclined position for television watching and web surfing and find it perfect for those uses.

Thanks, Fun2BHere. I believe the seat on this one is higher, since a couple of reviews mention that it's hard to touch the ground when seated in it. I plan on a low footstool nearby.

What brand is yours?

I think mine might be by Lane. It's about 11 years old now and really needs to be reupholstered. I suspect the reason people can't touch the ground is because the seat is so deep rather than because it is high. If I sit back in the chair, my feet don't touch the ground either.

Oh, you won't need a footstool because the first recline position pulls up the footrest, but you are still seated pretty upright.

Thanks. I was actually thinking of guests who sit in it upright. It seems to me that I read somewhere that the seat height was about 19" but I can't find that now, and of course that's without allowing for cushion squish.

I use one of these to hold my laptop as it is tall enough to clear the arms and easy to store away.

Yes, my cushion squish may be exaggerated because of the age of the chair.

I wouldn't consider this a well-made piece of furniture, but it sure has been worth the money for my needs.

My daughter bought an inexpensive one at Walmart when she had surgery and had to spend 6 wks sleeping in it. It has surprisingly held up well, and now is moved to their basement office, where it still gets used a lot. She said, it slept well. I dont know how high the seat is, but, seemed a bit higher than the Lane, and other brand, I have here at home.

Best Chair Co. has a similar design. We have one, and it is extremely comfortable. I think that sleeping in it, if needed, wouldn't be a problem.

Oh, BTW as far as it being easier to raise the large recliners with handles, I'm sure that's generally true, but a not-that-old neighbor who had a ruptured colon and slept in one of those during her recovery found she wasn't strong enough to pull the handle, either, so I guess there's no guarantee either way.

For sleeping in a recliner, l highly recommend getting a wing-back so that you can let your head rest up against the wings. My head needs something to rest against when I sleep in a chair. My Mother sold La-Z-Boys for 30 years when they were made well in Michigan. I am 76 and have three old (re-covered many times) La-Z-Boys and one new Smith recliner and all have wing-backs for my old head and a higher seat on the Smith for my old body.

For lower prices I would look Penney's on line, Ikea on line, and Amazon instead of limiting myself to Wayfair. I would love to give you one of my older ones but the seats are too low.

We've always had chaise recliners, never liked the space on the leg part, the chaise types are heavenly and our new ones are tough leather and since we are older, if one of us has a problem these chairs will stand us right up on our feet they are lift chairs and open and close with a remote, they are in our media room only way to enjoy TV.

Anyway, thanks, Pat and aputernut. Amazon has a great selection of leather recliners, fabric not so much. AFAIK ikea only has one (murren or something like that) which looks exceedingly shoddy in the pics, but I'll take a look the next time I'm down that way.

Aputernut, I hope I have a few years yet before I need the lift function, but thanks for the suggestion. I don't expect this chair to get much use, actually. I prefer the sofa for lounging around, and the recliner will be extra seating in my office.
