Can anyone name this plant?

I bought my house about 4 years ago and have been rehabbing a neglected yard on Long Island (zone 6-7). I have several of these shrubs in only one area of my yard. The deer like them, so they have been nibbled most years and have never bloomed. This year I have a deer fence (and deer off - great stuff!) and they are growing. No flowers yet.

I thought they could be an Annabelle, or maybe a wild hydrangea, but the leaf is more irregular than an Annabelle I stole a leaf from (both in picture, mine on bottom). Should I keep them? Or trash them? Thanks for the advice!

It is a hydrangea, and is finally getting a chance to grow. And you are asking if you should trash it?! If it were mine, I would let it get some size and see what cultivar it is before deciding to trash it. It may turn out to be something that doesn't float your boat, but for me most hydrangeas that are hardy enough to bloom are attractive.

Hi, Your plant looks happy & healthy. The fact that it's bloomed several times for you already shows it's happy in your care. I assume that pot has a hole in the bottom. Sure you can read ooodles on here about them. I'll just tell you these are tropical, jungle cacti, that's key to understanding these & their care. I'd take the rocks off too, these naturally grow in leaf debris & the crotches of trees so they're not even in soil in the wild, so if mine, I'd prefer not to weight the roots down like that. (I've never seen anyone do that w/ this plant FWIW.) Well done so far, Enjoy! Lena

I would tend to doubt it since it is in a bed with a planted groundcover, Vinca, so was most likely planted deliberately. There have been selected forms for a number of years. I would wait to see how it looks when it blooms.
