May I see your kitchen window treatments?
Comments (18)Basic curtains are dead easy to make, particularly if you use curtain tape (stitch it on and then pull up any gathers). Shaped toppers - particularly when lined - are a bit trickier, and you need a machine that's comfortable going through multiple thicknesses of upholstery material, which is often quite heavy. Main thing to remember with long drapes is to get the grain straight! Use a carpenter's square if necessary (or, if you don't have one, a sheet of newspaper or magazine is usually pretty guaranteeable 90 degrees at the corner). And, in fact, one of the quickest ways to ensure it being dead true to grain is to TEAR the long side instead of cutting it - it will follow the exact grain and once it's turned and stitched nobody will ever be the wiser to the fuzzy edge. Also, as with all sewing projects, press, press, press and (if the fabric allows) steam, steam, steam. Here are some simple toppers I made for my old dining rooom, but plan to re-use in the new kitchen - fortunately I made an extra one which I didn't use, so I can have two toppers in the kitchen and then use the long curtain I made for the old dining room in the new dining room too! By the way, has anybody seen that curtain rail anywhere? I bought it about 3 years ago at Joann fabrics - they do the exact same one in BLACK still, but my local Joann's doesn't have it in the nickel. Ideallly, I need one more, so if anybody has seen it someplace, please let me know (so's not to Shanghai this thread, perhaps best to email me via GW - click on my profile. Tx!)...See MoreMay I see your decorated kitchen corner? Picture
Comments (64)Hey Steph, Ya as far as laminates go I think it is pretty nice - I have actually seen them use it on Design Inc. Here are more pics but it doesn't show the counters too well and it looks extra shiney from the window but it is actually more on the matte side. It is not a straight edge and the seaming looks great. I actually bought it and had it installed by my brother in law's kitchen design company. I have heard mixed reviews on HD installers but that would be different in each area. Personally I change things up all the time and buying laminate gave me the option on new counters on a more regular basis and with 4 young kids we don't worry about them too much. Granite for me at this point was a big financial committment and also a design committment I was not ready to make just yet....See MoreMay I see your kitchen table in U shaped kitchen?
Comments (14)Thanks, I was thinking oval or round. Behind the table is 1/2 a wall which goes to ceiling, the rest is entrance to DR. Next to refrigerator is entrance to laundry/mud room, next to that is entrance to den. One more question: do you think I can use the oak chairs? They are comfortable, I would change the seats. I'm thinking of having a round table made up with an oak base with a formica top (Besalt Slate?) or something similar. Thanks in advance for your help!...See MoreCan I see your mantels or heaths- fall/holiday/or any
Comments (0)I would love to see what everyone does with their mantels and hearths. I think this is one hardest part of decorating. I have been reading all your posts about fall decorating and I would love to see what you have done with your mantels and hearths for not only fall but for other holidays or how you have them when it is not decorating for something special. thanks...See MoreOakley
