Kitchen cabinets- old and new?

Part 2- We are buying a new house. The kitchen was half remodeled recently. They took the washer and dryer (which we have to buy and install) and they have to be in the kitchen (hookup lines are only present there). I want to hide them, since they're in the kitchen and plan to put them inside cabinets. The problem is i doubt I can find exact cabinets to match the old ones. I don't want the cabinets to be starkly different, unless there is a way to make that work design wise. The back wall is the old exposed red brick on the house. The other wall is a light wood color, which we're planning to paint/re-do for sure. Any thoughts? I'm not the biggest fan of the light wood color and think I could probably re-finish or paint them- depending on how much of a project that turns out to be. We definitely don't have enough to do new cabinets everywhere (the DREAM!) but want something that will work for now.

Could you do a stacked washer/dryer and add a bifold door? You would have to remove the uppers and reconfigure them and do a frame. Homedepot had flat panel unfinished bifold doors that you could stain to match your cabinets.

Can you see who manufactured the cabinets, somewhere on the inside of cabinets or on the hinges? Then get two doors and two posts.

What do you plan on doing about the countertop? Are washer (on brown wall) and dryer (on brick wall) to be installed kitty corner, and what would be in the corner? Or do they both fit against the brown wall?

All I see is one picture of the gun cabinet.Have you already transformed it into a china cabinet or is that a work in progress? I think it would make a neat china cabinet and if you have already done that would love to see pictures of the finished product......Lillie

Reusing old cabinets in new kitchen or replace all?

Last year at this time I was contemplating something similar. My remodel was sparked by the need to replace 2 broken appliances, but my layout was workable and the cabs weren't bad. First I was going to paint the existing cabs, then I looked into replacing a huge pantry piece with more usable drawers. Then I talked to someone about retrofitting using rev-a-shelves. Then we thought about keeping cabs, but replacing the island with one with better storage. In the end I got all new cabinetry. I'm so glad I did. It's likely the last kitchen I'll have in this home and it has the storage and layout that works best for me with no compromises. My kitchen gets a lot of daily use and the expense was worth it to me. By the time we'd done all the work & retrofitting with my other plans it would have been okay, but now it's just right. My old cabs and counters are stored in my DD's garage. She & her DH will be using them to renovate their kitchen and are thrilled to have them. Had they not been doing this, we would have donated them to Restore. It depends on your circumstance and budget, but IMO, if you can afford to I'd choose to go with all new cabs.

I agree with nosoccermom method, if you can do that. The counter top can be butcher block so that you don't need to feel like you have to match the granite. They may be custom cabinet door people in your area who can give you a quote for just two doors or who can recommend where to buy the same doors.

Thanks Ladies!

I like the photos and the idea of the butcher block. The stackable may be a good idea too, because I could add a thin broom closet as well, but it would mean losing the upper cabinets.
