If you were to ask my boss, she would say Thursday. I'm not sure if it's a German thing, but where you and I would say "a week", she says "8 days". The grass is cut every week on Tuesday, so every 8 days. If you cut it every 7 days, that would slip it one day forward each week, assuming that the counting considers the first cut as day 1.

Hard to explain, and a technicality, but that's how she says it.

It depends on the interpretation of the person/business with whom you are making the appointment.

I think this is a question of common usage. No rule or law to consider, so no "technicalities" involved.

Look at the page of a calendar. A week is seven days, starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday. Sunday to Sunday is eight days. If you can't do something until one week in advance, the usual practice is that that means it's the same day of the preceding week. So, to book an appointment for Wednesday, but not until one week in advance, that means you can do it on Wednesday of the week before. If it were seven days in advance, you may wind up on Thursday, so maybe this place is saying eight days in advance to get you to Wednesday for Wednesday.

If it's something that's hard to get into, the establishment may have its own system. The highly rated restaurant French Laundry recently changed its reservation policy but it used to be that reservations were open a month (or two or three, it changed) in advance, using the calendar date. So when it was at three months in advance, reservations for August 1, could be made on May 1. That way, the number of days in the intervening months were irrelevant and no counting was required.

It's imprecise, I suspect there are many different views and practices. If in doubt, ask.

I said you can book on Wed for the following Thurs of the next week. Most of you said the same. There are only 7 days in a week. They kept counting Thursday to Thursday making it 8 days. There are not two Thursdays in a week! So the answer is Wednesday. Thank you all so much!

Not a trick question! This was an actual kind of friendly dispute. I appreciate all your responses. And yes, weekends count as this is actually for a golf tee time. Members and leagues can book 8 days in advance and others only 7 days. Now maybe you see why this is so important to get all of us booking the same way. Otherwise it will be chaotic.

It's easy to figure out if you do it this way. Wednesday to Thursday is 24 hours or one day. Following that (accurate) logic, Thursday to Friday is the 2nd day, Friday to Saturday is the third day, and so on. So of course the answer is Wednesday.

Yes, Wednesday. Another way to grasp this is to say that you can make an appointment one day in advance. You'd reserve for Thursday on Wednsday.

Contact the company in advance and ask what day you should call to book for the time you want to reserve.

I understand the error people make who think Thursday to Thursday is 8 days. Simply put, they're not adding correctly since they're adding the whole 24 hour day rather than realizing there's two partial days included. As already partially explained, and giving the example of noon to noon or whatever the time is from where you're planning is the starting point. Noon Thursday to noon Friday is one day, where counting Thursday and Friday as whole days is two days, but you're missing the day (12 hours x 2 = 24 hrs or one day) in the midnight to noon and noon to midnight. It's a calculation error but I understand how they did it.
