Mistrial for Cosby

Sigh. I know I'm not on the jury so haven't heard everything. But ... I do have an opinion. I believe that he'll take this as a huge victory and that he'll think it redeems him. For me, it sure doesn't. If nothing else, his reputation is destroyed.

This is not going away though, prosecutors already announced they are going to retry the case. And next time might go differently.

Suzieque....I agree! I've been hearing about Cosby since the '80's. Now to see it ALL played out, ie the cover 35 women accusers.... really spelled it out.

    Here's hoping.

I get why the jury was hung. These women took a drug willingly, then thought they had rights as to what happened next. This is the question being posed. The outcome of THIS trial will set the precedence for future trials. Prelaw students have to learn torts. This could become a "tort".

I'm simply flummoxed as to how Camille, his wife, stands by him. I just don't get it. Even if he's innocent of the charges (which I don't, personally, believe from what I know), he's had sexual relations with so many women outside of his marriage (he doesn't deny that). I'm just amazed that she's supporting him, at least publically. I'd have divorced his sorry, scummy butt long ago. But - to each their own.

"These women took a drug willingly,"

Cosby lied about what the drugs were.

I paid good money several times to go see a man who is a rapist, that makes me sick. He needs to pay for his actions imo. A total sham.

Don't misunderstand me.....I think he should get a whole lot worse than jail time! I just see why a jury was hung. Women trying to advance their careers. Cosby was going to help them....he just asked for a favor in return. I get how it all plays out in a court room.

In our society do you really think women have equal rights? Yes, we have laws that say they do....but .......? Cosby payed off several of his past accusers. No one wants to go through a trial.

    UN-believable!!!!!!!!!!

One more item on the list of why a high percentage of women who've suffered sexually-related abuse ...

    ... don't report it.

Camille is the big part of the disappointment for me.

I don't believe for a nano second that she didn't know something was going on. Whether she thought all the events were consensual or not, she stayed in that sham of a marriage. Probably for the "kids sake" as well as the gazillions of dollars, and the fame--- but there comes a point where you stand up for yourself, and the morality you've been preaching about all your life.

I hope Cosby has to pay with jail time, although he'll probably die before that ever happens, and I hope this wipes them out financially. That probably won't happen either, as they've probably shuffled the bulk of his estate & $$$ into trusts or shielded them some how.

He's a disgusting excuse for a human being.

    Further their careers??? HELLO???!!!

He didn't ask for favors. He DRUGGED THEM AND RAPED them.

I'm one of the very few who never liked him and thought him unfunny. He is a pig plain and simple and Camille should hang her head in shame for letting him treat her like that over the years. I hope he will be retried and found guilty. I predict it was one or two women holdouts because he was Dr Huxable , for God's sake.

This whole mogul/supplicant story is as old as the hills, and not only in the entertainment biz. There's nothing good about it, but nothing new here, either.

    Exactly!

I agree.....Soooooooooooo sad! He is guilty, but will a jury convict him?

But will a jury convict him.....

I wonder the same...will a jury see the monster, or the loving Dr. Huxable.

.Without a doubt I believed Dr. Huxtable was related to Bill Cosby. Cosby made absolutely sure that we would conflate the two characters. Both images were fictions, we now know. Cosby explicitly showed us how he and Huxtable were related. Consider, for example, that Cosby was a well-known collector of African-American art and Huxtable showcased a large collection of said art in his brownstone. Cosby publicly supported contemporary jazz music, which Huxtable listened to on the show. And last, but not least, Cosby and the good doctor both wore the same trademark sweaters.

I am not one to be start struck. I do not care one whit about entertainers. But as a child of the 70s and 80s, I loved Bill Cosby. From Fat Albert to the Cosby Show to Little Bill, I believed Bill Cosby was a caring man with high standards who wanted to help shape popular culture around a moral axis.

That it turns out Cosby was a cowardly rapist, who used potentially lethal force to subdue his victims, was beyond repulsive.

To me there are three potential possibilities why his wife sticks by him:

    1) She's so blinded by love she's convinced herself he's innocent;

    2) She doesn't care what he did, because of the money; or

    3) (My personal belief) She's doing it for the money. And we know what that makes her., albeit a high priced one

I agree with #3 Cynic. Just more proof that if you are rich enough you can do and

say absolutely anything you please and get away with it. Welcome to the World!! (IMHO)

I wonder if maybe his wife just stays with him for the life style. Could be she doesn't love him at all and who knows they may live completely separate lives. yes, she is in court room but maybe it is part of an agreement between them for her to appear supportive in public. It is the only reason I can fathom that she would still be with him.

Given that he is worth almost half a Billion dollars, I was surprised that he didn't leave the country. I guess he was so sure that he wouldn't be convicted that he didn't worry about it. After OJ, nothing surprises me anymore. Obviously, the defense attorneys were better at voir dire than the prosecuting attorneys....

Or Camille may be just another woman who is deathly afraid of her husband.

There's far more to Camille Cosby than is popularly suggested and her remaining in her marriage to Bill Cosby despite his despicable behavior has very little, if anything, to do with money. May I suggest that you read the biographical facts offered in the link below.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camille_Cosby

Would I, personally, react the way that she has? Not in a million years!!! I would have been out that front door so fast at the first hint of such behavior that even my dust wouldn't have had time to settle. But, I do believe there's something far more complicated going on in their relationship than is often suggested by the press or implied by those who don't live behind their four walls. IMO...an extremely well educated/experienced psychiatrist might have difficulty rooting out and explaining their ongoing relationship. But I'm sure of one thing...it has nothing to do with money.

I think one of the problems with this case for the jury was the woman called Cosby 72 times after this happened. Do I think he is guilty ? Yes, I do. It's a shame more women didn't join in and help her. Sitting in the court room really doesn't help.

I never cared anything about him one way or another but what I think may be part of the problem here is so many of the women waited years to go after him, and yet continued to associate with him. As for Camille.... I agree, money. Although she would get half....stay and she gets it all.

Camille Cosby may or may not have been aware of all of the details but his lifetime of active philandering must surely be something she's known about for a very long time. If not, I don't know what to say, maybe she's just been fooling herself.

All this publicity doesn't cast her in a very favorable light. Her potential complicity or approval are hard to discount as possibilities.

I'm not sure what the Wikipedia reference adds as far as further understanding of her situation is concerned. Plenty of well educated people have emotional problems, flawed personality traits, etc.

"Plenty of well educated people have emotional problems, flawed personality traits, etc."

    Yes...they certainly do.

I posted the biographic for Camille Cosby because it factually gives a broader, more informed picture of her as a person...her own person.

Bill Cosby's philandering and misconduct have spanned a few decades and been widely publicized when discovered. At one point in his career, it was conjectured that the loss of his grown son [to whom he was fanatically attached] due to the misuse of drugs, may have played a part in his personality change. Some have even speculated that his wife's academic and career accomplishments have out shown him to the point of public embarrassment.

Whatever the cause for his behavior may be, it's certainly not simply explained. His behavior is...IMO...inexcusable. But I've spent a lot of my lifetime picking up the pieces of those thrown aside from such criminal acts...hoping to reintroduce and rehab them to a more pleasant life. My dissatisfaction with the results of his current trial go far deeper than might be recognized but denigrating his wife in the process of trying to understand this recent legal atrocity is not acceptable to me. As a woman...it's as intolerable to me as rape. There have been enough victims...she shouldn't be added to the list because she's married to the man.

I agree with some of your comments but not as they concern Mrs. Cosby. Or of possible causes for Bill's conduct - his son died in 1997, his "incidents" date back to the 1960s. I think like many others in that business he had an overactive libido and figured he could use his position of power to abuse women at will.

I'm not sure what's listed as her "accomplishments" are anything beyond what a person a of wealth and celebrity, with plenty of time and money, can accomplish more easily than more ordinary folks. If my looking got me to the right information, her Masters and PhD are in Education. These are notoriously fluffy and not particularly rigorous attainments at most colleges.

Things that make a jury trial difficult:

#1 term limits. It is HORRID there is a time line for prosecution. The damage he did did not go away with time why should his responsibility? In the cases of the Roman Catholic Church scandals many term limits were suspended. How can they exist at all anymore?!! They should all be ABOLISHED.

#2 RAPE IS RAPE is not a universally accepted state of being. recreational drug use, women trading their bodies for favors, date rape where the woman says no WAAAAY too late...are all facts of lives that bring doubts to this situation.

#3 It is SUSPECTED some of these woman only cried RAPE because Cosby didn't follow through with his end of the trade:sex for career favors. Fact is the casting couch is live and well in that industry and women are aware of what it takes to get a head. WRONG on every level but women have been complicit in this for GENERATIONS!!! We have screwed ourselves ladies!!!!

#4 This jury took its mandate to heart (to only deal with THIS complaint). I would not have. The sheer number of accusations and years this has been going on convict him FOR ME. Camille is a schmuck. Money, lifestyle, didn't know/believe ALL THAT gets wiped out for me when the number of abused hits DOUBLE DIGITS!!!

The only solace in this is that his career/reputation/residuals is at an end. I guess that is something.

Here's a photo of him in the 2003 children-themed Rose Parade as one of 3 grand marshalls (Mr. Rogers and Art Linkletter the others). I wonder if they knew of Cosby's behavior. It's possible they did. I suspect it was known in the show business world.
