New Dishwasher: Want old school, not eco-friendly

I'm looking for a dishwasher that is the equivalent of my fantastic Speed Queen TL washer. :) I want an old school DW that uses a lot of water, a lot of pressure, and a lot of heat, with shorter cycle times than the eco-friendly units. I don't care at all about energy use or noise levels. Willing to spend up to $1,500. My fridge is KitchenAid, so a KA unit would be nice, but not necessary.

Suggestions?

Miele Professional dishwasher. A little pricey but it has a ten minute cycle. They start around $2800. Miele just introduced newer dishwashers that have a 58minute cycle (prices range from $1000-$1700).

I brokeup the old slab from a long ago garage to use as blocks for building 'stone' edging in my back yard. The walls are between 2 and 3 'chunks' tall-- about 12 to 15 inches. the bottom course is barely visible. Where i've run into stabilty problems a bit of our heavy clay soil usually works to level things. If that doesn't solve the problem I usually toss in a bit of mortar when i remember. After 10 years with dirt, moss and algae, and plants growing they look like field stone walls that are dry laid. You need to be careful to use old slabs with out rebar and try to get slabs of even thickness. 2 years ago my neighbors had thir drive re done and I asked for some slabs. The contracter was only too happy to give me 6 slabs about 6'x6'. This stuff was about 8"thick and a major pain to break-up with a 16# sledge hammer, but in due time I broke it up and built a raised bed along my drive (24'x 8'x 30 inches) It turned out a bit bigger than I had imagined but holds about 12 cubic yards of topsoil and about 2000 daffodil bulbs. Now I'm planning to fill it up with other yellow plants. I'm hopping trailing plants from the top and edging plants will help disguise the concrete until it gets some aging. I know this is really old, and I don't make it a practice to dredge up and comment on old threads, but since I found this while Googling today, I figure someone else may find it in the future, too. So, I thought I'd add my two cents. First... I think the concern about toxins leaching into the compost is a non-issue. This is especially true if only the outside of the posts are painted, as, it would seem, would be the case in the scenario posted by the OP. Second... while I know the original post here does not quite fall into this category, I have noticed a certain inconsistency and perhaps even hypocrisy among some "environmentalists" (largely among well-educated and affluent people I know who also rail against "consumerism".) It does not, for instance, help the earth if you buy an expensive new elaborate plastic compost bin. It's the "Whole Foods" phenomenon... a whole business has grown up around making consumers feel virtuous. Along those lines... it would also usually be better to use whatever old paint or stain you happen to have on hand, rather than buy a can of new "environmentally friendly" paint or stain. If you don't have any, ask your friends/neighbors/coworkers... most people have a large stock of half-empty cans. Better to use up whatever is going to be thrown away than to purchase new stuff. I stained the exterior of my pallet compost bin with some leftover deck stain.

Using "waste materials" in place of purchased materials for seedling pots. I use milk cartons with the top cut off and bottom corners cut out for drainage. I also use yogurt cups with holes poked in the bottoms. These are good for larger plants like pumpkins. I just plant the milk carton in the ground and the roots will grow right through the holes. At the end of the season there is a little bit left of the carton to pull up and throw away. My favorites are the fiber egg cartons since they are already formed and can be cut apart and planted right in the ground like the peat pots. You can also cut paper towel/toilet paper tubes to the right length, fill em with seed starting mix and plant in them. Just be careful when lifting them to plant so the dirt and seedling don't fall out the bottom. I also use old phone book pages formed into cups (works with newspaper too) for plantable seed pots. You don't need any special tools to form them. Any cup, vitamin bottle, or whatever is the right shape you want can be used to wrap them around and fold up the bottom. Thank you all for sharing the information. My husband says he likes Fiesta ware because he likes heavy weight, but I had to veto it because I'm the one who works around the kitchen and ends up carrying all the dishes. I will check out the dinnerware you all posted here. However, I also want to find a robust set just for casual gathering when our best friends bring their kids who like to swipe things off the table. You might find new old stock if you do a lot of research. I'm pretty sure GE still makes a model with a drying element, but I'm not sure about the rest. There were some buttons to at least partially un-eco it, but I don't know if they're still there.

Buy a Miele and run the Quick cycle. Or spend more.

I contacted Miele and the rep told me the Futura Dimension models only use about 3.5 gallons of water on the quick cycle.

Mieles are good dishwashers, not old school. Conservation is a much more in the forefront in Europe. They make great use of a small amount of water. New dishwashers (all kinds) like to brag that they use less water than washing by hand.What you're looking for is a dinosaur. Again, look for new old stock. A dishwasher that's been sitting in a crate in the backroom of an inefficiently run mom and pop store. Or buy a hardly used one of the right age, second hand.

One way I've thought of to get the dishes to dry in a Euro machine, if, like mine, they're not the right kind to make the convection work, is to put an enamelled cast iron grill pan in and just leave it there as a heat collector. But you still have to use rinse aid, which makes the glasses taste soapy.

Does you machine open the door after the cycle? My Miele opens the door after the cycle is complete to aid in drying. I wonder if I did not use rinse aid, will the plates still dry because of the door opening at the end of the cycle?

Are you saying 3.5gals is bad? I am not quite sure I understand. My previous Miele which was about 14years old was very energy efficient too. They are very good machines and clean dishes.
