First FFO of the year!

FFO "Prickly Sensation". It is supposed to be a mid. Also 28" scape, but scape is only about 8", so it is almost laying on the ground.

Also looks more orange than peach. But still, it is my very first for 2017 here in southern VT. I added about 60 plants last fall. Some from Maryott, Smokey's, Roycroft, Oakhill and Olallie. But most are from a local grower, Slate Hill Farm in Salem NY. They are hybridizers, Mary & Bill Barnes. Lots of scapes appearing now that warm weather is here. Looking forward to a good season.

You are way ahead of me.....no fair! My daylilies haven't even scaped yet! What a difference between southern Vermont and northern New Hampshire, it seems. I would have thought with us being neighboring states we'd be at the same timetable. I'll bet though, that southern NH is on your timetable. What fun you will have all summer, seeing the ffo's coming one after another! One thing I remember is that any that I purchased from Maryott's were still on their California clock and bloomed shortly after planting, even when planted in the fall. Their first year the scapes were short but that was it. My favorite Maryott is Incendiary. I hadn't bought any from them in recent years so I don't have the newest, but Incendiary is superlative in my garden. I look forward to seeing the ones from Slate Hill Farm especially. I find that ones purchased from a New England source do much better here overall.

Congratulations on the beginning of your season! Prickly Sensation has a pretty bloom, even if the scape is very short. New ones often have short scapes the first year. I like that bloom, and it does look peach to me. After all, peach is a shade of orange. Looking forward to seeing more of your blooms!

I think my favorite is Twirling Parasol. It looks like a huge bloom. The red noid and the Susan Weber clumps are very impressive. Snowflake Empress is a pretty one. A friend here has a very large clump of it, and when I toured her garden it looked very white. Debra

OITGAD, maybe I can help you with the insertion of pictures. At least I'll try. First you have to upload your pictures to a host site like photobucket or picturetrail. It's really easy to do and when you get them uploaded, photobucket is the easiest, look at your picture and below it will be 3 lines of text. The middle one is the url. Highlight the URL and right click and copy. Come back to the forum and when you have your message typed just right click and paste the URL into the photo. *This is with Photobucket*. If you choose to use another web host then after you upload your picture you will have to right click on the picture and then click properties, copy the URL and then go back to your message and type [img src=this is where you right click and put your URL] where I have put the [ and ] you will need to change those to and that's it. Hit preview and submit. There is a test forum for pictures that you may want to try it in before you use the regular forum and people there who will help you to tell you what you're doing wrong if you have a problem. Thanks Peter! I ordered a few different colors online in 2015. I don't know if it will be true to color, because it was an eBay seller. I hear that it's rare. I bought them before I heard about how most seeds are pink. I lost most of the seedlings to frost this past winter. I repotted them and accidently mixed up the names. I made a collage of all the seeds that I had ordered. I'll include the picture. Supposedly it's one of them, but now I know that it's probably not. Maybe I'll get something cool, who knows!

Debra and Celeste, thanks for the encouragement and the info on the short scapes. I'm a newbie and your info is invaluable. My earliest should be Lava Flow and it looks like it is about to flower, maybe tomorrow. It has 3 scapes. Will post when it does.

I do think that is Prickly Sensation just looking at bloom form. Mine is much more of a peach color. But again, that could be due to first bloom, climate and your soil conditions. It will be interesting to see if your others retain that color. Still very reliable and reblooms for me. Is also long blooming with great bud count for me. I think you will also love Lava Flow. Color is so pretty. Good for you on your orders!!

This is my Prickly Sensation in the south. It bloomed early here too and has put up reblooming scapes recently.
So you see the form, shape, size, ruffling, and veining are exactly like yours. Please post pics of the taller scape when it blooms. It will be interesting to see the color. It looks to be a very healthy plant!

Congrats on the beginning of your season! Pretty bloom! Prickly Sensation was one of my first to bloom, and had a couple short scapes. Lava Flow was another of my first to bloom.
