Caring for Veronica/Speedwell "Georgia Blue"

I have very many of these around as facing plants that spill over my border rocks. As the tendrils/stems grow they don't root, they just keep sprawling along and are very attractive, but the largest and oldest are beginning to form a dead center in the middle of the mound.

Should I be pinching these back or pruning or manipulating growth somehow? I can't really see a way to easily divide them just yet- they're all just first year plants.
