Can anything be done to make my haworthia look better

I'm pretty sure it was a chipmunk that chewed on it. It's been over a month. Should I do anything? Maybe pull damaged leaves off with tweezers? Or leave it alone? Thanks in advance

6 years agoOh, I didn't realize that chipmunks weren't worldwide. Here is a pic of the cute little hoarding rodent. They don't get any cuter, they scamper around my yard with their tails in the air, real cute until you find holes all over your yard, plants dug up and chewed on. But I really love them.

Comments (6)Here is a picture I pulled up off google maps as well. with a question regarding the wood fence in the right corner. Is there a point to these fences? It was here so we haven't touched it as i am not sure it's purpose. We have since planted daylilies in that area. what do you think of a rose hedge across the back from post to post. this area gets full sun, the soil is sand, the grass hardly grows but the daylilies have taken to it fine and i do have shrub roses that i need a spot for. They're red, and just small and were originally purchased to go along the side where the weed problem is, but then i realized if i needed to take them 30 inches from the wall it interferes with traffic in and out of the gate to the back. any and all suggestions are welcome. to note, the front garden lining the patio pavers gets full sun mostly, closest to the house there is an area that gets shade and is getting hostas. the garden infront of the house along where teh windows are gets mostly shade until that corner, and i wanted to put potted hostas in there, and possibly line coleus in, or caladiums. wasn't sure how tall caladiums get. Comments (8)Spile aerators seldom do much good since they simply push the soil away compacting it further, what may be beneficial is a plug aerator, something that removes a 1/4 inch plug of soil. However, the single best thing you can do is get lots organic matter into that Iowa soil because without that OM your soil will simply slide back together again. In the meantime set your mower at the highest level you can and mow so that you do not cut off more than 1/3 of the grass blade at any time. The more grass blade exposed to the sun the more nutrients that grass blade can manufacture to feed the crown that will then send out more grass to fill in the empty places, eventually. Mulch mow too, recycling the grass clippings right where they came from will supply your turf with 1/2 the annual nutrient requirement as well as supply a bit of mulch to help conserve soil moisture and help keep the soil cooler which will keep the grass happier and somewhat less likely to go dormant this summer. Comments (17)It looks like the "front" (view) side has vertical siding. Is that the same as the "back" side? So that the horizontal and little bits of diagonal siding are only on the gabled ends? If so, I'd consider swapping out the siding on the garage end (and the far end, possibly, if it matters) to be vertical siding that matches the long sides. The funny bits of white trim can go, and I would also lose the contrasting corner trim (paint it to match the body of the house). If you don't need the light from the two windows above the garage, consider losing those as well. Maybe replace with a simple vent. If you're wanting to reside completely, I think a vertical board-and-batten looks great on a California ranch. Here's a thread from another board that shows a ranch with original B&B siding. If you scroll down you'll see a photoshop where someone has made the garage door B&B as well, so it all blends together. And way toward the bottom you'll see it painted in a dark gray. Comments (6)The white things look like wooly aphids, brought by the ants. You can wash off the aphids with a hose; but you have to kill your ants. If you have ants, they will constantly bring aphids and other small pests to your plant. Your tree doesn't look so bad; give it more of a balanced citrus food applied at the drip line and watered in well. Chicken manure is not so good for citrus; it is high in nitrogen and missing some of the micros that citrus need. You should be using something with an NPK ratio of 5-1-3, or something close to that, with Mg, Ca, Iron, and zinc... maybe put a little dolomitic lime to raise the pH a bit, as 5.4 is about the lower limit of where citrus can thrive....See More

6 years agoIn 1965 my family took a vacation 'out west' and spent a lot of time in our national parks. My brother, then 7 years old, took a shine to the chipmunks somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. They took a shine to the lunch he shared with them!
