Thanks for the kind comments everyone! Marian - the overflow runs into a channel between the inner and outer walls of the sink, then down into the drain below the stopper. It's rather a nifty system. I'm also wondering about water splashing and have no doubt globs of toothpaste and smears of lotion will soon cover the tiles as well. For this reason I sealed the granite 3 times. I'll post a report once it's been in use a few months. Although ultra modern, I like the basin look of the sink and it too reminds me of Victorian ewer and basin sets. I know the trend is for opening everything up, but that doesn't work well here. It's not that big of a deal, and would only cost maybe a hundred dollars or so, but I'd add some studs and drywall back, and re-create some of the wall. It works much better to have two separate spaces open to each other, rather than wide open, but not integrated. Creating one space out of two here doesn't work because they haven't been unified into ONE space well, and you have to deal with the plumbing chase. And thus, you get lots of people who will think Marcolo's comment about the range being in the DR, but not actually say that to you. It feels like the kitchen is busting it's way into the DR way with no separation. The kitchen needs to be separate and feel separate from the dining area, or else you need to do a LOT more work here to make it into a real single space. Adding enough of the walls back to accomplish the separation. Still maintaining a larger opening than originally there will actually make the space more cohesive. It feels choppy and awkward with them flowing into each other with no delineation now.

Do you have a dishwasher? I think that I would paint the cabinets and change their hardware, but I would paint the cabinet a light color ( unlikely to be brown-that is what you already have) and I might even go for a two tone effect with the lower cabinet slightly darker than the upper cabinets. Possibly instead of painting the cabinets I just might buy new and interesting cabinet doors (possibly some glass doors on the uppers) and not touch the current shelving and cabinet frames unless they're in bad condition which they don't appear to be. if you can add undercabinet lighting it would go along way towards getting rid of the shadows.

I love that chair and think it would be a really fun addition to your other pieces, except the mirrored one that you already acknowledged. And maybe if your room was apricot the mirrored piece would reflect some color and work, too. Keep it until you get the other elements in place. Your shower curtain is fine, but you could also just use a plain white liner; it won't take up much visual space and will kind of blend in. For me, it's the plastic look of the plastic, whether clear or patterned that I don't care much for.
