Some years I have a bit of a leaf issue on pluot in the greenhouse. I've thought in the past it might be a spray issue. But the tree pictured hasn't been sprayed except with Zinc chelate. I don't think that's the problem since the leaf issue is always isolated and all the pluots were sprayed the same. No rain so disease is unlikely. In any case it's not enough to even cost me one piece of fruit.

Steve, the only thing to worry about with ants is if you get aphids. They move the aphids around and make the infestation much worse. I usually just control the aphids with soap or oil and don't go after the ants. But on my cherries there is a leaf curling aphid hard to spray so I put tanglefoot on the trunk and that eliminates the ants which eliminates the aphids. You can also do that trick on plums. In fact I may try it this year since I get some horrible green aphids on my plums every year. Re: spraying, once you get fruit you need to spray. I use Surround for the curculio and spinosad on the moths. For brown rot I use Monterey Garden Fungi Fighter (propiconazole) along with sulphur and Serenade. MFF does a very good job but its good to mix it up with other sprays or you may develop a resistant strain. Scott

Goodness!!! I read these posts and admire the photos of all the lovely plums, they are beautiful to look at and inspire me to try grafting some new varieties. Matt, do you wrap your scions before burying them? Does this work better than in the cold room? I have a Toka that I bought this spring on "mystery" rootstock that I am assuming is not hardy for this area as it came from a big box store not a local nursery. I have some native plum seedlings ready for grafting so I want to take some scions off of the Toka incase it doesn't make it thru the winter. I would love to store them outside if I could. At what time of the year do you start cutting? I read that they do it in Feb.

If only somebody could startup another forum that runs as I notice the glitchyness of this site too it’s a pain in butt to post on here now. They have newport plum here and I’ve seen muckel plum. I have apricots grafted to sand cherry thats what my trees are on and they produce fruit. I only know because the sucker it shot out was distinctively a sand cherry. I was was hoping somebody with a grafting combination of apricot to euro plum could share the experiences of what types worked. I have apricots growing on my Italian plums but on greengage would not take or survive winter ok. I have a couple flowers on a three year old m604 graft on my Italian plum right now. Pretty excited as I plan on removing all my hybrid plums and planting European plums only as they are much more suitable for Calgary.
