Dark Green Spots on Leaves

Hey guys,

I have been growing citrus for a year now. I have used this forum to guide me in the right direction many times. This time, I cannot find anything on my problem. On a few of my trees, there are dark green spots on the leaves. I was thinking there is a deficiency. The new growth is a nice green, with no visible problems. I don't know what these spots are or what causes them. Could it also be the sun? It has been very cloudy these past few weeks, but when the sun is out, its hot!

Also, I just bought a mandarin tree from a local yard sale. Some leaves are a pale yellow green, and these are the bigger leaves. He said the tree was fertilized, and he has quite a few citrus trees himself, so I think he knows what hes doing. The soil was very heavy and sandy! I repotted the tree in a smaller pot with a better mix, or so I think, since the roots aren't that big. I was thinking these leaves were damaged by the sun, but I also don't know what is wrong. The smaller leaves are green, but they are curled. I just want to know if anything is wrong. I ordered two more trees from fourwind growers and they should be coming in this week hopefully!

The "dark green spots" are the color the leaf should be; the lighter portions are likely a deficiency of some sort; not to worry if your new growth is fine. What you are seeing is how the tree WAS; the new growth is how it IS.

Ok a picture says a thousand words first you need to decide which you prefer blooms or plant?. Now your plant is VERY dehydrated from root rot and its putting all its energy into the blooms.if this plant was mine, I would cut both bloom spikes(hard I know). Remove it from its pot trim all dead and mushy roots spray the entire plant with hydrogen peroxide let it DRY and then repot into fresh bark mix maybe to a smaller pot since most of the roots are rotted. Place in a less light area. Water once a week and give it some time to bounce bk. I think because the media went bad you develope a fungal infection you may still need to treat it so the phyton 27 can be used acording to instruction. Phals are really hardy so I think in time it will bounce bk. You can put the bloom in water to enjoy. That's what I would do. Hopefully someone else will advise you. Posibly too much light. Corn plants are med. -low light plants. Even in your filtered light , the tropics are bright! Not sure on this! maybe someone else will "chime in".

You could try and prune it to a smaller size maybe if you wish to keep it in a smaller pot, my key lime is quite small and it went through several flowering cycles this year. Citrus are heavy feeders so providing enough nutrients is key. I use granular citrus fertilizer on a monthly basis just topdress the soil, and when my plants are fruiting and flowering I use a water soluble fertilizer weekly. They also make water soluble citrus nutrients which can be diluted and sprayed on the leaves. I prefer to apply smaller amounts of nutrients more often. Also I recommend using organic fertilizer, non organic fertilizer will lead to salt build up in the pot. The picture is the kinds of fertilizer I use. Thanks for the input John and Vladimir! The last picture of my mandarin leaves, you think that is a deficiency as well? I just want to make sure I'm headed in the right direction.

It looks to me that the large pale leaves are the older leaves, in which case it appears that the tree had a nutrient deficiency in the past. It will probably drop those leaves soon. From now on, make sure that you are feeding it well with Foliage Pro 9-3-6, 1 Tb/gal every time you water while it is actively growing. Make sure it needs watering by digging into the soil an inch or two with your fingers to see if it feels moist.

Thanks for the information Vladimir! I am fertilizing regularly, with Miracid for now. I am going to buy Foliage pro soon. I want to repot my citrus in the 5-1-1 mix. I just finished reading about it and I will slowly make a batch.

I had leaves like in the first picture on my lemon, when I sprayed with mixture of oil and soap and I think the oil ratio was higher. I heavily sprayed the tree and the leaves looked like that for about a week or so and then it went back to normal colour.

That would make sense, since I sprayed horticultural oil on my citrus to control some pests.
