cost question -- getting rid of sliding doors
Comments (13)The 2009 IRC allows sliding doors to count for light and ventilation and artificial light may be substituted. Your code may be different. R303.1 Habitable rooms. All habitable rooms shall have an aggregate glazing area of not less than 8 percent of the floor area of such rooms. Natural ventilation shall be through windows, doors, louvers or other approved openings to the outdoor air. Such openings shall be provided with ready access or shall otherwise be readily controllable by the building occupants. The minimum openable area to the outdoors shall be 4 percent of the floor area being ventilated. Exceptions: 1. The glazed areas need not be openable where the opening is not required by Section R310 and an approved mechanical ventilation system capable of producing 0.35 air change per hour in the room is installed or a whole-house mechanical ventilation system is installed capable of supplying outdoor ventilation air of 15 cubic feet per minute (cfm) (78 L/s) per occupant computed on the basis of two occupants for the first bedroom and one occupant for each additional bedroom. 2. The glazed areas need not be installed in rooms where Exception 1 above is satisfied and artificial light is provided capable of producing an average illumination of 6 footcandles (65 lux) over the area of the room at a height of 30 inches (762 mm) above the floor level....See More3" high threshold lip on impact sliding door causing everyone to trip
Comments (54)I live in Arizona. I’m currently having a new home built and just had my 8’ sliders installed in one guest room and master bedroom. The sill on my sliders is about 1 1/2 ~ 2” and I have kicked it several times now. Was just wondering today why is it so high? My contractor for my foundation told me I would have ALL level Entryways going from outside to inside and vise versa.. therefore myself or anyone else would never have to worry about tripping over any threshold.. I definitely have two tripping hazards! I will be contacting my foundation contractor first I guess.. hhhmmm...See MoreImpact Glass Windows : Need Advice
Comments (10)ES Windows are a good window. Price wise they more than likely will be considerably more dollars than PGT with a considerably longer lead time as they come from S. America. Vinyl or Extruded Aluminum should be fine in Florida, just stay with a light color. Casement Mechanism's "may" wear out but it is indeed very rare. They generally will out last the window. In my opinion a window (just not in the shower) is a great idea in a bathroom. Also I would stay away from sliding windows and use all casements or fixed were it me, in any brand. Sliding windows are the weak point in every manufacturers product offering....See More2 windows and double french doors vs 4 panel sliding doors
Comments (41)We built in 2021 and ended up with 5 multi-sliding doors from Euro-wall. We needed impact/hurricane rated doors. All of ours are 10 ft high to fit our 12 ft ceilings. Our largest is 6-panels and 18 ft wide. We also have 4-panels that are 12 ft wide and 2-panel that are 6 ft wide. Very happy with them, except one is missing weather stripping and we have been waiting forever for the window/door dealer to send their warranty crew out to make the repair....See Moresar000
