Value of Antique Geisha Tea Set?
Comments (26)Your pieces have printed outlines....the differences in placement you see are due to the printing being laid on the piece differently or to differences in how the hand done embellishments, coloring was added. The puzzle in the whole matter is the mark.....early showa period...1920's and after. BUT the McKinley tarrif act passed in 1891 made it illegal to import porcelain without the place of origin marked... Perhaps it was bought but not for import? Or imported into Germany? or perhaps at one time it had a paper label also attached....or perhaps the importer turned a blind eye....that happened some! All that said....it's still not worth much. I still say garage sale it....because the packing and shipping will be prohibitive. Someone may pay $50 for the set....but not when they have to pay another $30 for packing and shipping....See MoreI bought the AG, open burner, Wolf--report after 2 weeks
Comments (14)Good to hear the report. In the hardware store, the "sliders" are usually called "glides." They can be had in a felted wool and in vinyl. The felted wool is supposed to be best for hardwood floors but I've found the vinyl ones are fine for hard surfaces. Vinyl would be best to use on the plywood patch, too. They should make it easier to move the stove around, even on the (hopefully) soon-to-be-replaced plywood. On the kitchen being hotter with the AG stove than with the predecessor DF, the increased stove-top BTU only accounts for some of that. Although the Wolf stove's burners are capable of greater output than the old Jenn Air's burners (probably a lot more out), a bigger thing (it seems to me) is that the the Wolf's burners are likely to be physically larger. You get greater flame spread and that can make for more noticeable waste heat. I really noticed that in moving from my old GE Profile DualFuel to my current pro-style stove. I've found that using wider pans helps mitigate it a bit The oven is likely the biggest contributor simply because gas ovens must vent out the combustion byproducts (which is mostly water vapor). Getting the range hood installed will definitely help....See MoreHow highly do you value an easy-to-reach oven?
Comments (18)I like them way more than I expected to. I didn't want a wall oven but at the time there was no good range with induction so I went with a cooktop. And I am so loving having double ovens - and at the height they are. Even the lower one is higher up than an oven in a range. I'd hate to go back. I had to get creative with my layout to accommodate the ovens, but in the end I didn't lose important counterspace. I built them in next to the fridge, so the also don't stick out like a sore thumb. I'm 50 and I'm baking more than I ever did- mostly because my kitchen is so much more fun to work in....See MoreValue of prep sink in a small kitchen??
Comments (48)As long as we're reviving the old thread, I'd like to add two cents. Back in 2011 when I wrote above, we expanded a corridor kitchen (a terrible space) by bumping out and adding a G-shaped kitchen beyond it, with the old kitchen now still a corridor, but on the outside of the kitchen peninsula. "Small" really doesn't apply here, but compared to large house kitchens, ours is smaller. The second sink, as I said, was full-sized. We sure never regretted it. A potfiller could never have served in same way. It is the envy of everyone who visits the house. Having a double sink at the window for dishwashing and a second wide sink for all kinds of uses is fabulous. One thing, though...you need to use a smaller container to contain water within either sink when washing small things. Have a conscience about water use, folks. Then use the water to water plants or wash the floor....See Moremom2sulu
