How did you decide between Pure White and Creamy White Cabinets
Comments (17)I had the same situation between which white to choose. I completely agree with everyone that says you can't really choose a color until you see the sample in your new kitchen. I picked during the framing stage by putting all the samples next to each other in what was to be the kitchen and looking at them at different times of the day over several days. I hung a tarp over the exterior wall to try and simulate the lighting of the kitchen after sheet rock. I have a hard time with creamy whites because they go yellow in the evening here (Seattle) so I picked BM White Dove, which was the middle of the road in my samples. Of course I was second guessing myself right up until the end, but I'm glad I went with the the mid-white of the samples as it does tend to go a little yellow at night and it's not too stark during the day. The grey undertone helps keep the yellowing minimal. Here's what I came up against that others should know...my cabinets were site finished and they were sprayed with a primer of bright white. Talk about operating room! I was glad I didn't go with the brightest white of my samples. Then the first coat of BM White Dove Satin Impervo went on. Each time I had to shut down the job site for three days and crank the heat while the paint cured. I hated waiting three days to see the cabinets and all the built-ins! Anyway, after the first coat of White Dove I snuck in the house at night. The cabinets were the dingyest yellow of all yellows! Yikes! Of course I cried because I had picked the wrong color when I was hoping I had picked the perfect color. Back to square one. Ugh. But then the next day as I moped around the job site I noticed that the cabinets didn't match my sample from the store. Here's what happened...I went to my local BM store and bought several quarts of tinted Satin Impervo paint mixed at the store. After I chose the White Dove, my painter went to his BM wholesaler and bought White Dove Satin Impervo off the shelf as it is one of BM's stock colors. Although most say the formulas are the same, they aren't! The difference was horrifying! Luckily it was the first coat, I was able to figure out the problem and the final coat went on perfectly in store mixed White Dove paint. Sadly, we had already finished all 40 shelves and 74 doors when the carcasses were painted and the mistake was discovered so we had to go back and redo all of them. My point? No matter what you choose, always go with the exact same formulation as your sample!...See MorePure White Quartz vs. Light Grey or Pattern in Contemporary Design
Comments (3)I have Ceasarstone Organic White in my kitchen and two bathrooms. I loved it when we installed it (January 2014) and I love it now. Seeing crumbs and spills is a good thing - we're more likely to clean up what we can see (I had a very swirly granite in my previous home, so I know whereof I speak). No stains, no yellowing, no chips....See MorePure White Caesarstone sample test
Comments (15)Corian is still high on my list, I just need to see it in person. Both the Home Depots closest to me don't have a white countertop in their displays. I think I will have to call some showrooms and find one that has a white counter on display (Elk Grove Village, here I come). I didn't even want to think about quartz, but when we went to Ikea to look at cabinets, the Bjorket display just so happened to have a white Caesarstone counter, and it was just beautiful. I imagine I will like Corian too, I just have to lay my eyes on it. Joe: thank you for the specific color recommendations. Your assurance is one reason Corian is on my list. Is there really no difference across solid surface brands? Besides price? Ftr, I feel like I should send you a stress ball or toupee for the amount of times you have held my hand about this, while probably tearing out your hair. Mayflowers: I was in the Bed, Bath, and Beyond parking lot when I read your reply, oddly enough, so I added CeramaBryte to my list. Unfortunately, it did not take out the gray marks. I am concerned about that because one of my kids has some visual and motor problems and I could totally see him putting a plate on the counter on top of a spoon and then sliding it over or something. Certainly he will spill things, which doesn't seem to be a problem as per my test, but he will probably also rub metal on it accidentally. I am in the process of making my cooking tools/kitchen more accessible to him (adaptive measuring cups and the like), and we will need a more forgiving counter. Anglo: I asked her about price and she said quartz can be the same price as Corian. I was surprised and wonder if that's not true. Maybe a bottom of the barrel quartz? Do you suppose "Glazier White" is the same as "Glacier White?" It would be funny if they kept the color and just slightly changed the name. I am glad I don't have a job that requires me to come up with color names. I think at this point they are all taken. I am also curious about the integrated sink. Is yours rectangular or somewhat rounded? For some reason, I like the former but not the latter, but I imagine the neater the squares, the harder they would be to clean. I read a Corian hate thread recently where people complained about the sinks and about scratching, but maybe they didn't know that that can be fixed? I have slowed down a little with my kitchen planning as bathroom gutting/remodeling starts next week. Yayayayayay. As bad as my kitchen is (if you recall the pix), our second bathroom is way worse. It will still be tiny and simple, but it will be clean-looking and pretty cool....See MoreSherwin-Williams Pure White or Benjamin Moore Simply White
Comments (9)Here's some pictures. @mxk3 z5b_MII know the white isn't the msot amazing choice with these tiles but I'm trying to think of something that would brighten up a small kitchen and be appealing to a future buyer. (This is a 2 story house and I will need a 1 story at some point in the future). Also thank you @ktj459 for your thoughts as I indeed worried that the simply white might look yellow even though the warm looked better w/ floor tile. I had thought about getting new floor tile since were renovating the kitchen but it extends into my whole family room, aroudn fireplace, bathroom, laundry area and the thought of how much bother and disruption, that would be just seems a tad overwhelming to think about. I have one friend that absoltuetly hates my tile and told me I need to change it and another that doesn't mind it so much. Also thank you @Patricia Colwell I will keep the lighting suggestion in mind. Too bad they don't do lighting first so you can pick out all the other colors of your kichen afterwards. Thanks all....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
