Trane A/C thermostat display goes blank w/ safety float switch active

I have a Trane XL1200 A/C and a Trane digital XL900 thermostat. The unit is 6 years old, and in the past when the safety float switch was activated (due to excess water in the drip pan) the A/C unit stop working but the thermostat display remains on. After I flushed the drain line the A/C unit begins working again (as expected).
Recently the safety float switch activated and besides the A/C unit stopped working, the DISPLAY ON THE THERMOSTAT WENT BLANK. After flushing the drain line, the A/C unit began working and the thermostat display came back on.
As the thermostat display now goes blank (after the safety float switch activates):
1 - is this an indication the thermostat may need to be replaced?
2 - As this never happened before, is this an indication of a system related problem?
3 - does anyone have any experience with a Trane XL900 thermostat display going blank?
