Comments (14)Hey Darla! I was doing a search for witch hazel and this thread popped up. Wow, bless your heart that is awful that you fell down the stairs like that! I do hope you heal quickly and are able to at least enjoy the cuttings, maybe do some seed starting as well? I hope you have ample support from family and friends as well! Best Wishes on your speedy recovery! p.s. When you get ready to trade the Witch Hazel do keep me in mind this Spring! :) Hugs, Wendy...See More(Off Topic) I am sure glad we are having global warming
Comments (15)"just because it is colder in Iowa doesn't mean it is colder everywhere else." Oh, How true. March 8th my wife and I left Iowa for an extended stay in Florida to try and get warm. Eastern Iowa had been in a cycle of Rain, Ice, Snow every 3-4 days since before Christmas. We just wanted to go south and get warm!!! We hit tennessee day after they got smashed by a blizzard. Went on to Gatlinburg, there it was 50-55. Went to Savanah Ga. It was 60 and rain there. Went down to Venice Fl. 60 and high wind. Couldn't dive because water was so turbulent you couldn't see your guages. Ft. Lauderdale and Deerefield Beach wind off the ocean was 40+ mph and temp not above 60 or so. Went over to Freeport Grand Bahamas for 6 days. Temp never got above 65 most of the time it was 50-55 and rain 4 days out of 6 it rained and had high wind. Tryed diving one morning and the waves came up so badly once we were out and underwater, the dive master came down and called us in and it was almost impossible to get back on the boat as the boat was rocking in 6-8' seas. 21 days gone and only a couple of them did we see 70+ temps. Got back to Iowa and we went right back into the winter rain ice snow cycle and we are still in it right now minus the snow. Still cold enough to freeze outside some nights yet. I just want to be warm. I will gladly put up with 90+ temps and 90% humidity. I am tired of being cold. I would like to break a sweat for a change. Of course the old saw still applies: "A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still" Here is a link that might be useful: For those who wish to keep the debate going, ample fuel here!!!...See MoreTotally off-topic post...careful!
Comments (19)No, it's in a big pot on wheels. I leave it outside unless temps dip below 20. I have found that leaf damage begins at that temp. No doubt it would survive at much lower temps, but it would defoliate. It basically stays indoors during some of December, most of January and some of February because it is too much of a chore to bring it in and out every day. The rest of the time is easier to manage as only a handful of very cold days are expected. x...See MoreOff topic- gas fireplace ? what brand do you have?
Comments (8)We got this one: Town and Country " GDV42" gas burning fireplace. The quote is for 5k installed. It is not in yet. We chose it because we liked the looks of the flames the best. When it is on, it looks very real. We have three other real fpl in the house, this is in our most formal room and i wanted it to be easy. One thing I noticed is that they look most fake when they are off and you can see the glass. A good trick is to buy a nice, large fireplace screen (I found an old beehive one) to keep in front of it, so that when it is off you dont see shiny glass.... I also recall that some burned tooooo hot. Never occurred to me they could be too hot, but the guy said if you want only supplemental heat, make sure you get one that has good flames even on low....See MoreLars
