Help! All my poor trees are dying!
Comments (5)Thank you so much for your reply. I did use RoundUp around the tree, but I was very careful not to get any on the foliage. I don't even think any got on the trunk because I always use a cardboard shield when spraying near the trunk. I also only spray when there is no wind. If this is RoundUp damage, what am I doing wrong? I sure hope I haven't killed my trees!...See MoreI think my poor Azalea's are dying!
Comments (3)Don't fertilize. That will just stress them. The main cause of azalea death is too much water and being planted too deep with poor drainage. If the soil was acidic, they were planted in well drained soil a little higher than they were at the nursery, received partial shade, were well mulched, and weren't over watered they should be OK. One nasty killer is not soaking the root ball before planting. If the root ball dries out, it will not accept water. The correct procedure is to open up the root ball with a claw and knife to unwrap or cut any circling roots and if it is dry to soak it before planting. By the way, miracid is the worst azalea fertilizer. Hollytone is much better but only use in the spring and then only use at half the rate on the package if at all. Comments (10)I'm no expert, but it looks to me like that red one is rotting inside the top part, not the stem! That's bad..I think you'll probably just have to get rid of that one because that red part is grafted onto the stem of another plant, so the top part won't regrow if you cut it off. The yellow one does look like its stalk is drying out..possibly because the roots have rotten? How often would you say you've been watering it? The number one cause of death for cacti and succulents is overwatering I'd say your best bet would be to re-pot it in a fast-draining, porous soil mix. Like Teatree said, you can search for some good soil mixes or just make a simple mix of 50% perlite and 50% potting soil. That won't be the BEST mix for, but the plant will be happy and dry. When you repot it, rub all of the old soil off of the roots and take note of what color the roots are..they should be fairly white, not brown or black (rotten). One more thing: the pot you plant it in should be able to breathe as well; regular ole terra cotta is the best and will only cost you about 75 cents. Don't water it for a week or so after you re-pot it, and then only water it every few weeks when the soil has completely dried out. Good luck!...See MoreHelp... My poor Hosta has amnesia
Comments (13)Cantstopgardening, I am so glad my handsome Regal Splendor has helped out helping you ID your Amnesiac too! What a great cause you are contributing to. The 4-H club is a great club. All my cousins belonged when they were kids. We used to go and watch them compete in barrel racing at the county fair each summer. Good memories! Koidom, I think you will love Regal Splendor. He really is a beauty. Very eye catching, a real attention getter. I'm sure he will make a wonderful addition to all your blues! Tracy...See MoreTeresa Rozich
