Beautiful flowers. Sorry I can't help with the id. it looks close to my blue prince but the leaves are different shapes and I've never seen mine bloom so I'm unsure of flower color. Forgot to add, the only useful bit of info I have is That I'm pretty certain it's an Echeveria of some sort based on the flowers. Would say I'm 100% sure but that'd probably come back to bite me in the....

Your plant must be pretty important if it's riding while traveling ha ha! The pot size works as already mentioned, but in regards to watering it limits your methods of assessing watering needs. Bone dry for a long time is not good as you mentioned, but most succulents in the hands of us newbies seem to die from drowning. How then to know when dry enough to water? If you are using a typical peat based potting soil, it's not the best for a succulent IMO but it makes dryness easy to assess- the pot will be dramatically heavier when just thoroughly watered than when dry and in need. If planted in a clay pot, and using a gritty mix soil which drains quickly, the weight difference between wet and dry becomes much more subtle. At that point, for me, I need to see and feel the soil, which looks as if it would be hard to do in your setup. so I guess the short of it is, share what kind of soil you are using for better help re: watering. ez

Wow! Thank you all for getting to me so quickly! Grenda: those look fantastic! I agree, initially I bought the plant because of how it caught my eye at the store. It was like a purple blue-ish (pearlescent) if that makes any sense, just stunning. I can see you have leaves attached to your stems, when I bought mine there weren't any, maybe a sign of something from the beginning. It looked like at one time there were leaves all the way down similar to yours. Chucker: that does look very similar! I wouldn't be surprised if it was some sort of hybrid or not a true succulent. Or it could be that I dont know what I am doing and I am torturing the poor plant. Rina: I am also from Ontario, specifically Ottawa, and I will re pot my plant on your advice. It seems to me that the stuff the plant came in looks a bit earthy. If you're located in Ottawa, what store do you recommend to go to for new soil. So, the plant looked like it did in the first picture for a while after I got it. But then I started to notice that the center of the plant started to go bright green (like the colour in the second picture). The green started to bleed outwards from the center to the outside making it look like it does in the second photo. Generally speaking, it could be over watered or under watered or not enough sun. I doubt that it has too much sun. I was also wondering if I was right by assuming it only blooms once a year? Thank you all once again, this is very exciting and interesting.

You’re welcome. Two per tier should be ideal. I’m cheap so I maximize my 3 panels. The plants in the top shelf “take turns” being directly under the lights. The middle shelf of turned on longer hours to compensate for the fact that the bottom layer gets minimal light. As of last year, this set-up worked well for me with none of the plants being etiolated so I’m doing it again. The plant I use as benchmark are the Graptoveria Vera Higgins and California Sunset as these, in my experience, readily stretch and lose their beautiful coloration if light requirements are not met.
