Finished Modern Bathrooms (will be 3 posts)
Comments (5)Thanks so much! I also love the Vetrazzo. The pictures do not do it justice. I also used Vetrazzo in Amber Ale for a bar area. Out of everything I get the most compliments on this material. It has been great in the kids bathrooms because it hides everything (it's the same color as toothpaste)! I can't find the thread with the glass enclosure. You can see one of the hinges that attaches it to the wall. It swings to be fully open and when closed covers about 60% of tub. I printed off a picture from the thread and took it to my local glass company to make. Water does not leak at all and I have kids that shower in there to prove it!...See MoreCross-Post: Modern Aesthetic in 1906 House/Help w. Living Room
Comments (20)Some people have seen these pictures ad nauseum, so I apologize, but I am a big supporter of both honoring the historic fabric of the structure while furnishing the house for your own aesthetic, for comfort, for whatever. My apt is 1838 so most of the units never had any kind of ceiling fixture at all, and the first floors at some point had a chandelier mounted at the medallion. Only the Gentleman's Chest and the Japanned cabinet on stretchers would be vaguely "period" in this room, all the rest is modern. (The wing chair is the wrong period, too). But when I bought this place I actually emphasized the 1838 by stripping anything off the perimeter that wasn't period. In the hall I did put a fixture that was at least "more" period appropriate, although modern fixture would be okay too. The public hallways mostly have fixtures like this: And I think something like this could work in your LR if you did not want another large drum shade. I would consider putting the current LR fixture in place of the small bell at the vestibule door, if you don't store it away. Personally I like the tension between historic elements attached to the house vs modern contents....See MoreX-Post from Bathrooms: Kohler Moderne Gold Timeless?
Comments (28)Thanks for posting these pics for me. Get some samples of the faucet finish that will help a lot. I have a wall mounted faucet and planned it to be accessible from the back if ever it was needed. The accessible area is inside a closet in the room on the other side of the sink. I had a new cabinet made for my soapstone sink and tall backsplash. My faucet rough-in is installed through the wall and the thick backsplash. I actually could disassemble the faucet and sink from the front too, and lift the vanity away from the wall if I needed to. I have a large access hole behind the backsplash. But to change out the rough-in I think going through the wall, behind would be preferable, because there is more room to cut a hole to access plumbing. Note that the faucet comes out of the backsplash and drips straight into the sink. There is no counter below the faucets and spout. I mention this because, most pictures I see with a wall mounted faucet have a counter below the handles. I love the way mine is set up because all wet droppings from the hands wind up in the sink and not onto the counter. This sink is a breeze to use and clean. It is 18" square outside and around 10" deep outside. This is my guest bathroom/mudroom/ on our working farm. On occasion I might be mixing calf milk replacer in the sink, or washing a dog in the bathtub. The sink can be used to wash fairly large items too. It was a real treat to plan all of this and see it come alive. You will have so much fun with your beautiful dresser....See MoreRare-ish Post-Modernism
Comments (23)I am surprised people like it. One of the things that I don't care for is that there are a lot of unresolved open spaces and boundaries between different parts of the house (which is intentional in the design)--and I don't really like unresolved open spaces....See MoreRita / Bring Back Sophie 4 Real
