Where can I get the rock border for my pond
Comments (19)Hi all! Just a little warning about collecting rocks on your own from piles...Don't make the mistake I made. I noticed a nice pile of stone in a field, asked if the owner if he would be willing to part with some. He was a nice older fellow, said the stones had been there for a few years and he wasn't going to be using them or working the land anylonger, so take what ever I wanted. Well I took a walk out to the pile and lifted one, yep one rock. Stirred up a nest of yellow jacket wasps! Luckily I moved quick enough and only got whacked by one. So if you're not sure how long the pile has been there, be aware of what is buzzing around the pile. I must have been by the back end of the nest entrance or I probably would have seen or heard the wasps coming and going. Lucky me. I told the owner about the wasps so he wouldn't go near them. He told me to come back in the winter if I wanted the stone and thanked me for the warning. Well, I did go back and collected a few really nice stone for a wall that was going in. the nest was huge! the rock were on top of an old tree trunk which the yellow jackets were nesting in....See MoreRock Borders
Comments (1)I'm not sure what you mean by sidewalk stone...sidewalks here are concrete. I edge all my gardens in stone...stone walls and small flat stones side by side. I couldn't imagine using anything else. Why didi you remove the ivy? was it unsightly? If i want to soften and beautify stone borders, i find plants do wonders. Creeping phlox is beautiful as it spills over stone. How much light and growing room do you have....See Moregrass in rock border
Comments (2)I don't understand how the grass gets through the plastic but you could try. Using flat thin stone as a base and putting your other stone on top staggered over the joints in the bottom layer. Or as I did in some beds is lay flagstone down under the stone 12 x 18 " pieces letting the edge stick out further than the top stone about 4-6" into the lawn a real easy trim job with the moxwe no weed wacking needed. Butt the stone tight underneath and no grass will ever come through. Mowing is a snap!...See MoreRocks as landscape borders
Comments (3)No. It's not going to stop weed/grass encroachment. You'd need a vertical barrier -- like a 6" or 8" strip of metal or plastic that is buried vertically in the ground. And you would need to monitor the top of it to keep weeds from growing over....See Morebunkfree_4a_canada
