Boo-koos of bacon bits

In about a month, I am going to need to turn about 10 to 15 lbs. of bacon ends and pieces into bacon bits. Can I do this in a slow cooker? I'm having trouble visualizing myself standing over a stove for hours to do this. I think I remember a thread sometime ago about rendering lard in a slow cooker, but I can't find it now.

So, will a slow cooker (crock pot) produce nice crispy bacon bits? Any other suggestions on an easier way to accomplish this? Or am I stuck with a large frying pan and a hot stove.
