I was greeted this morning with SOFTUPDATE

SOFTUPDATE is apparently a virus. It got through Malwarebytes and Windows Defender. What can I do? This does not seem to be related to the ransomware outbreak. I found something on line called freefixer, but I really don't trust much on the web. My tech guy is out of town till tomorrow. Is freefixer OK to use?

azinoh, yes I would love to know how I caught this virus. I am very careful and haven't had a virus in maybe ten or more years. I didn't do anything unusual yesterday.

Beautifully said, Florence. Robert and I have had many conversations about just this subject. Sharing isn't just the best part of gardening, it's a most essential element to friendship. This is the reason that I share whatever I can from my garden -- whether it's cuttings, or rooted roses, or a rose I've decided to discard . . . sharing something that brings us joy (roses, in this case) spreads that feeling to others. Even though I could barely function when we were finished, I will always remember this particular planting day with a smile. (I'll dig the photos out of my camera and start another thread about this in a day or two. I don't think I have time to do it this morning. I'm off to share the joy by helping a friend put a new ceiling in her front porch.) Connie

Merci! Thanks to everyone! Should I get in touch with the Photoshop developing team to sell them the idea of "picture condom" instead of "watermark"? Not yet you say? Yeah, I'm not sure they are ready for that one yet... pumas: c'est exact, je suis à Ste-Foy. Who knows, may be we'll meet sometime on one your trip here! Thanks, have a very nice day with lots of flowers! Laurier

Thank you for sharing your lovely lilies. I have just prepared a lily bed and I am in the process of choosing items that will blend with them but not destroy them. I have planted a lovely varigated mandaville in the back of the bed on a short trellis and have nile lilies, crimeon lilies, amaryllis and other small lilies in the front. I am thinking of some sort of flowering spreading plant to fill in the spaces or I may do some herbs this fall along with a cabbage or two. We shall see. Thank you for reminding me of the joy I will have later in the fall and next year. Linda

Good afternoon and welcome. I'm always late because I live on the west coast (Canada) and so feel like I'm always rushing to catch up. When I sign on after my morning run most people are ready for lunch. My beverage of choice is coffee in the morning and probably another 4 cups during the day. I only pay attention to those studies that say coffee is good for you - which I believe is what the latest one says. I hope you have fun here.

aputernut, Thanks, but I couldn't find softupdate or Software Updater within the task manager. I also could not find it in the program files. Are they both the same thing or two different viruses? Unless there is an app that can do the job, I guess I have to wait till my tech gets back tomorrow morning.

It appears that what I had was Softwareupdate, which took over as a user in my PC. My tech guy tried a few things and ended up using HitmanPro to remove the virus. I am now clean but still have no idea how I got the virus or why Windows Defender and Malwarebytes did not prevent it.
