How is it I knew, before checking the member's page, that that was a picture taken in the UK? Can anyone help me on the indefinable clues which told me that? It often happens on these pages and I'm never quite sure how I know. Does the reverse happen? Is there something there which tells you it's not a US garden? Are you talking about edible vegetables or any type of plants? I'm thinking that you may be more interested in annuals, at least, since you express a need to have seeds for successive years? Any true annual will produce seeds in their first (probably only) year. Biennials tend to produce seeds in their second year. Perennials vary depending on the type of plant, but then you probably wouldn't be worried about having seeds for the follow years.

Also, from the way they are growing, in a row at the building foundation, It looks like they were deliberately planted. Although some mullein can be considered weeds if they're growing where they're not wanted, I think these are more likely grown as ornamental plants.
