Does anyone know what plants can produce seeds year one?

I am looking for a list of plants that can produce seeds year one as my skills and cold storage is limited when it comes to saving them for another year. I know Tomatoes and peppers are in this list but not sure what else and would love more information!

Are you talking about edible vegetables or any type of plants? I'm thinking that you may be more interested in annuals, at least, since you express a need to have seeds for successive years? Any true annual will produce seeds in their first (probably only) year. Biennials tend to produce seeds in their second year. Perennials vary depending on the type of plant, but then you probably wouldn't be worried about having seeds for the follow years.

I can't figure it out either. I've got very detailed photos but can't figure out how to get them to show up that way. I read and followed the instructions for linking but it won't accept an image more than 60k...which is too small to see. It MUST be possible to do it another way because I have checked other images (in the Gallery forum) for size and they were considerably higher resolution - and HUGE onscreen. If anybody can tell me how to do that I'll be happy to post the photos I have.

Just curious thanks GG, especially in the context of being too cold to ship plants to where you are or not. Serious cold kicked in to NYC today, 30s, w/ windchill in 20s. I've been sick so stayed in today playing w/ plants, cleaning up lots of pots, quilting, & then OOPS!! My Bldg's alternate energy sources (generators) pooped out at 7:30 pm. Too early to sleep so I came all the way outside to find Internet to play. No more Hoyas for me 'til Spring I think -- Happy Holidays everybody!!

Can pepper plant produce completely not fertile seeds?

As Davef1 mentioned, cross pollination could cause it, but highly dountful, imo. Run by us how you saved the seeds... when I save bell peppers seeds, I pull ripe pods. Within a day or 2, I cut the flesh away, leaving the seeds attached to the placenta and stem. I then just let the seed mass dry out for a week or so on a plate. I then dislodge all the seeds on the plate and let them dry out for about another week. Put in envelopes, store in a cool, dry, dark place. Other varieties, I may just scoop out the the placenta and seeds and do the same as above. Superhots, I'll just split in half and do the same as above. Btw, contrary to popular belief, one doesn't have to wait for a pepper to FULLY turn color to harvest seeds. If a pod is STARTING to turn color, the pod is fully mature and seed development is finished. In other words, "mature" comes long before fully "ripe." Kevin

The question isn't addressed to anyone in particular- just anyone who knows if Milkweed pods can be distinguished from each other. If your pod came from Asclepias tuberosa, for example, that's a species that's native to many parts of the U.S. and Canada, so it might be appropriate for your garden... http://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=ASTU Virginia
