pm2: Mine is an 8 oz one from Wild Birds Unlimited. It's identical to humzinger in every way, even made for them by humzinger. They have a retail store near me and their feeder was a few $ cheaper than the brand name Humzinger. 8 oz is plenty for me because my birds will not allow more than one to feed at a time. I make nectar in larger portions and store in covered jar in the fridge. Only takes a minute for me to clean, refill, and rehang. Again, easy to clean and can even go into the dishwasher. I just use any old soap or spray cleaner. Someone above mentioned no soap but the manufacturer makes no such recommendation and I don't see how soap could be a problem as long as it's rinsed well. I've enjoyed reading about your Winter Hummer and offer this thought. If it happens that your Anna's should stay for the summer and into next winter and beyond, I won't be surprised. Looking thru my journal going back to 2001, all we ever had was the summer Rufous, but for the first time in 2008 and then every winter since, we've also now had the Anna's stay year-around, including seeing the female collect nesting cotton and actually finding her nest and nestlings in 2010. Records show that Anna's have been expanding their range for many years. It is the Female Anna's that establishes the nesting territory and nesting should begin in another month or so here near North Bend, WA. If your Anna's should stick around through the summer, you might just be having your husband get used to the early morning winter feeder duty!!! Enjoy and Good Luck

I didn't think it was worth bothering with the dishwasher for hummzingers since they are so easy to clean. That was until I found a tiny, nearly invisible bit of black mold still hiding in one of the portholes after a "thorough" hot water wash. First, that mold formed even tho I was changing the feeders every other day or even every day during the hot weather. Second, it was clear what I thought was a thorough hot water cleaning wasn't always doing the job at least during the hot weather. I splurged on a duplicate set of feeders, so one is in the dishwasher while another is hanging outside. I think the need for the dishwasher treatment at least every couple of times is more necessary in the hot weather when every sort of microbe multiplies faster. As a bonus, having a clean set of feeders on hand makes changing the feeders a breeze, even when you have to do it every day.

pd728: I would (and I will) leave the feeders up until at least the end of September, and probably until close to frost. I'm still seeing hummers but when that's rare I'll take in the feeder from the deck and leave the feeder up in the front yard. The deck feeder will come in because the raccoons empty it every night and I have to refill it every morning.
