Spots on mango leaves, and black area on mangoes.

A lot of the leaves on my mango tree (Tampa, FL) have these black spots.

My google efforts have identified Bacterial Black Spot as the leading suspect, but I'd appreciate any knowledgeable second opinions.

Meanwhile, some of the mangoes have black areas, as well. Could also be BBS from my reading, but not exactly sure. I have mostly seen this on mangoes that have fallen, not ones still on the tree.

Try googling Anthracnose...if that is what it is you can treat it with a fungicide.

I had the same issue with my mango. And it turn out to be that I was overfeeding it. I found this online. Leaf Burn Problems in the soil extend to problems with your mango tree leaves, such as dry brown spots. Such problems include too much nitrogen or excessive salts in the soil. Both problems come as a result of over-fertilization. Fertilizers increase the amount of salt in the soil and raise the nitrogen levels. Excessive amounts of these elements cause leaf burn in your mango tree, and leaves develop dry, brown spots of patches. If the leaf burn is severe, the leave may die and drop from the tree. Heres my two mangos that are 16 months old. They do have some brown spots on the leaves. The very bottom layers of leaves have been there since germination. Also, you can see the smaller tree begin to lignify. The larger tree is much further along. Some people spray copper on the leaves to treat the bacteria.

Puglvr, I'm sorry yours also got the same problem. I really hope it's nothing serious ... and yes definitely hope we all can find out what's bothering them. Perhaps those who have mangoes here might have the same problem? Any idea what it is? I don't know if some variety of mango is more susceptible to diseases. This one happens to be the Nam Doc Mai which had a lot of white spots before I cleaned it all up and pruned it.

Spray the tree with copper fungicide

It looks like BBS but Anthracnose can occur together with it so it's possible to have a mixture of both. A copper fungicide can be used but it's good to avoid conditions that favour infection. Watering should be done right at the base of the plant, not on leaves or branches. Trees should be pruned so you don't get dense foliage and restricted air movement. This also minimises rubbing together of different parts of the tree which would open up pathways for the infections to get a hold. When pruning frequently sterilise the pruners with something like bleach. You need to remember that these things are in the air around us all the time and only get a hold when conditions are made right for them.
