Girlgroupgirl: photos for August (just a few!)
Comments (11)Here are some more photos for you all. I tried to show parts of the house/yard that some of the older members might be familiar with from other photos (and you can see reference to these places on photobucket) Here is the pink house veggie garden. The width is about a regular lot size. But look past that porta potty and see that the entire lot is really a lot and a half! Yep, we had to clear out some front space too. It's hard to see, but that has a strip of newly planted summer veggies I'm hoping to get something off of in September and October! Here's the half lot, our lot line goes back to the green vegetation you can see. Now we are in the back yard of the Purple House. You can see the plant shed and on the left, the part I would never show anyone in photos! This was an alley of weeds, now it has lovely drainage, the retaining wall I've always dreamed of and will soon be paved with patio stones!! This photo is just to the right of the photo above. You can see where the old bouncy chair is...that will be the patio area, just in front of it. Our lot goes way over to the taupe house, just this side o' the weeds!! Here's a shot of the dry creek. It's not glamerous like others previously pictured on this forum. Most of mine will be filled with plants most of the time, so I'm not as concerned with appearance as I am function. Plus the rip-rap does actually blend with my concrete retaining walls (not pictured yet). It is amazing what they have done. The entire area behind the pink house was forested two years ago and with very dense weedy underbrush. It took us a year to tame that to mow it. Then a tornado came thru and tore out the trees. Then the weeds grew HIGH and the errosion was horrific...that side area of the pink house would be flooded with FEET of water....now it stays moist and yes, muddy but we can deal with that. I no longer have a 30' wide river of rushing water up against both houses....it's just wonderful!...See Morejust a few random pics from last year
Comments (17)Moccasinlanding, i am embarrassed to say I do not know if that is an English Dogwood .. it was here when we moved in, and I am very very new to any gardening other than mowing the grass. I really have just started to hobby garden 4 years or so ago. Ken, as to that one Great X under the shrubs, I will try to get a early picture of it this year. I thought I bought all five of my plants the same time and place. Also unless my memory fails it looks brighter at first, Anyhow I will try to get some early comparison shots, heck it will be fun to have a photo project for the spring... The funny thing is I had them purchased and in the ground before I found out they can be DIFFICULT, my first thought was DANG ! I really liked that type. So far they have been no problem (it pays to be ignorant) or so they say... I have heard of locals with hundreds of types that can't keep Great Expectations alive, or lose them over a winter. So I just enjoy them and hope for the best... they haven't come up yet ! fingers crossed. This post was edited by leafwatcher on Tue, Mar 19, 13 at 23:44...See MoreJust a few more photos
Comments (9)Thanks so much for the positive feedback. It is encourging for me to keep on painting. Looking at all of your creations really, really is what got me to wanting to paint again. I buy my resin pieces, some supplies, books and get lots of ideas from the Artist's Club. I get catalogs in the mail, but you can find them at: artistsclub.com Did you get a good view of the flag box in the background? At one time I had an "Americana" room, this wooden box was purchased somewhere...don't remember where. Since I no longer have the room, I am trying to use just a few of the many pieces I had. Most of the things are gone, but I did save a few and decorated my laundry room with them. Many of the pieces are from the early Decorative Woodcrafts magazine. I loved just loved them, even bought a scroll saw to make many of the pieces they had each month. Anybody remember them or am I showing my age? I have every one of their magazines from the first to the last publication. That was back when I first started to paint and boy was I excited to use their ideas. I just love primitives, even if it is no longer stylish.... this box I use to hold painting supplies now....See MoreJust a Few Random Pictures
Comments (20)Thank you, Krista. I'm very much looking forwards to seeing more mature blooms of this rose, which will hopefully look more like what I've seen in pictures. Still, I got quite a thrill when I saw this pretty little bloom. boncrow, I would say 3-4 years and it's still growing. I'm now having to prune it a bit so it doesn't encroach on the other roses or look out of balance in relation to the smaller ones. I bought two more SdlM specimens exactly one year ago and the bigger one is about 2 1/2 feet tall and slightly wider. It has many buds on it. The second one, which is in a shadier spot is only about 18 inches across and 20 inches tall and has no buds. I fertilized some of the roses yesterday and I hope the little one will begin to grow a bit faster....See MoreLilyfinch z9a Murrieta Ca
