Nice looking hostas. Is the first picture Striptease and the last one Great Ex? What is the large hosta in the second picture?

Beautiful and very healthy looking hostas. Thanks for sharing. If the first hosta isn't Striptease, then perhaps Gypsy Rose or Risky Business? I think that RB has whiter centers though.

Just wonderful to see new ones in bloom, isn't it? I love Sp. Sea Shells every time I see it. The green on the second Paul Owen seedling really looks nice. A guy at work wanted a green daylily and I told him that most are yellow with a greenish cast. Well, this one appears to be as close to green as I've seen. Vickie

Alexa and janetpetiole... you both have a very sharp eye! For Alexa, yes, that is Spring Fling in the 3rd picture, 3 o'clock position. It is the only one with a ruffled edge in that area, and it really stands out... And for janetpetiole, yes, I have a little dwarf garden in the top right of some of the photos (it is a trough I made at hosta college last year.) Actually, you can see in the 2006 picture, the dwarf cedar is nice and green, but in the 2007 pictures, you can see it is reddish/brown because it died over the winter... I am planning to take it out sometime soon. There is a tiny dwarf hosta in there too... Masquerade... and the gnome which resided there last year is still inside and hasn't made his way out there yet! Phil... you are correct about not being able to appreciate the true beauty of a hosta until it matures for a few years. Spring Fling was not much to look at in 2005, but now in 2007 it is one of my favorites. It's finally starting to look like those hosta library pictures... And Janice... I'm not afraid to answer your question over here :-) The wedding was wonderful, everything went as planned, and my bridesmaid dress fit fine (after some minor adjustments!) Buff

First pic is indeed Striptease.
The big blue in picture two is Powder Blue.

yes last is 3 great X, I am always anxious to see them come up. Last year with the heat they just never looked as nice ...

That is wonderful that you have three Great Ex's. It is my favorite hosta, and I too am anxious to see them again this year.

Looking forward to having spring like weather....soon.

Last year at this time we had a week of 80*. Not that I want it that warm this spring, but 50* would feel better than the 20's we have.

waste of energy.. unless you wanted to grow them.. but all you would get would be elegans from it ... and some terminal whites ...

i am jealous they grow that well for you ... would you be offended if i suggested i hate you .. rotflmbo ....

Ken I don't have a good reason to let them go to seed.. I realize I won't get any more Great X from them. I do like having humming birds flying around all the flowers.

Also the two great X in the back yard will hopefully be nice this year as well. One of those is the better plant of the 5 I have.. fingers crossed. Let me see if I have a pic of that one.

This is the last of my Great X, it is tucked up tight under my shrubs and really doesn't get any direct sunlight. It looks just like all the others the first month its up, but then it goes a big darker shade, and seems to get slightly bigger leaves ..

I might add I am really excited to see how my Streaked seedling I got from Trudy will do.. I have had real good luck planting small plants SO FAR so I did plant a few that maybe should have been left in a pot another year. I have enough of them I figured that if Trudy will do the cross breeding experiments, I will do some planting experiments.!

i dont think the last one is GE ... maybe brother stephan??? or is that the wrong color pattern ...

and in the first pix.. its all seed .. no flowers left ... so no hummers to watch ...

besides.. i was just fooling with you ... my flower stalks from 3 years ago.. are still out on mine.. lol ...

Really a lot of nice plants there. You are an attentive gardener!

Is that a mock orange or as we call it here, English dogwood, in one of the shots, against the chain link?

Moccasinlanding, i am embarrassed to say I do not know if that is an English Dogwood .. it was here when we moved in, and I am very very new to any gardening other than mowing the grass. I really have just started to hobby garden 4 years or so ago.

Ken, as to that one Great X under the shrubs, I will try to get a early picture of it this year. I thought I bought all five of my plants the same time and place. Also unless my memory fails it looks brighter at first,

Anyhow I will try to get some early comparison shots, heck it will be fun to have a photo project for the spring...

The funny thing is I had them purchased and in the ground before I found out they can be DIFFICULT, my first thought was DANG ! I really liked that type. So far they have been no problem (it pays to be ignorant) or so they say... I have heard of locals with hundreds of types that can't keep Great Expectations alive, or lose them over a winter. So I just enjoy them and hope for the best... they haven't come up yet !

Not a problem there! I could tell if I saw it a bit closer, I'll try tomorrow to zoom in on it and see. I've gardened for a long time, but did not know until last year that the two were the same thing, so don't apologize. Too many plants, so little time! :)

dont get me wrong.. it well may be..

since there are no dates on your pix.. i can not presume that the pix were taken all the same day ... so on a plant whose center fades to white/cream.. comparing should all be done on the same day.. or over a whole summer ...

and its highly shaded spot.. who knows.. a week or two later.. it may have looked like all the rest ...

in other words.. it has a different micro climate in regard to sun .. so comparing them based on a static pix is problematic ...
