Hi, sorry to hear about your floors. The same happened to my floors about a month ago. Fortunately, we were home and able to get the water up quickly. Unfortunately, we had just had our floors refinished that same month! Ours cupped too. Did your homeowners offer Servicemaster or a similar company to help dry the floors? They bring in dehumidifiers and big fans to help dry them out out. We are not having ours ripped out even though the insurance adjuster believed they should have been. We are using the same floor company that initially did the floors and he believe he can save them. The meter used to check for moisture registered below 7 and is considered good from what we understand. Our floors had only been sanded and refinished once in most of the house. That will make a difference. Do you know if yours had been refinished several times? The floor company's main concern was having to sand so much to "uncup" the floors. Fearing they would be left thin. They may be able to only replace a few boards finger laying them and then refinishing them to match up. It may take a little time for them to dry out before your adjuster can make a assessment. It is a huge inconvenience for sure. They are starting our work on the 2nd. Good luck to you. It will eventually work out. Oh, BTW, if we wanted to leave the house during the process our homeowners would have put us up at a hotel.

My home was built in 1968, just a standard little ranch, 1100 sq ft. A flood came through last year and i got water about 1 inch deep throughout the house. I finally saved up the insurance deductible to have it fixed recently. The contractors tore out all the floor which was hardwood on top of 1x10 lumber nailed crossways over the joists. They came back with plywood (OSB?), 1 layer thick, then a laminate floor. The new floor is considerably thinner than the old floor, because laminate is a lot thinner than old hardwoods. Two questions I guess - is this standard to only put down one layer of subfloor? And if so, how to I make my doors and door trims look good again? The door trims no longer go all the way to the floor, there's a gap under all of them about 1/2 inch, plus all my doors swing a lot higher off my floors now, again because my new floor is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch lower than my old floor. This goes for my entry door thresholds too, Thank you.

I would talk to a realtor before spending any money. Have your realtor offer some suggestions and then go with the 'Most for the least' on his/her list. Yes you should fix the laminate that is damaged. The easiest way to do that is to use a STONE LOOK or TILE LOOK vinyl product in the kitchen. I would then look at adding carpet in the bedrooms (getting rid of the laminate that is damaged) and leaving it at that. You spent $2K for a quick and easy fix. It did it's job. Now you need a new product to do another job. And that job is to replace the damaged stuff AND sell your house. I would start looking at tile-looking vinyl that would work nicely with your counter tops and cabinets. You can spend $4.50/sf for a nice thick vinyl (you don't want too much of a floor-height variation). You can then change out the bedrooms to carpet. Or you can change out ONE bedroom to carpet and leave the others as they are. Carpet is on the 'most for the least' list. It gives you the most return on investment for money paid. Carpet is cheap and FAST. So fast! If you want it even CHEAPER than do ONE room in carpet. Once you have done that room/those rooms you can SAVE some of the good planks. You will then use those good planks to FIX the hallway damage. Voila! You have fixed your issues. For the $ amount on your flooring investment = $0.55 per $1.00 spent. Roughly. But again, before you list your house, go ahead and talk to a realtor. You might be in a super hot market which means you could have a house with 3 walls and no roof and still get whatever you are asking for. We don't know. Not until you talk to a realtor.

Replacement is the only way to fix. Do you have any in a closet, etc, maybe could swap them out. Its not easy to replace them, either.
