Suggestions for light granite with oak cabs
Comments (4)While I don't have Uba Tuba granite, I have oak cabinets and just replaced our counters with a black laminate (Basalt Slate). Love the contrast and the fact that we can accent in any color! I think a lighter granite would blend in with the oak, but that's just my opinion. Comments (19)Thanks, everyone. luckyj, here is a picture of the moulding at the top of the cabinets. It was something our contractor and I decided upon (not really liking what the cabinet company had in mind) Some other info from our kitchen is below. It's a small, but very "moveable", space and gets a lot of wonderful sunlight (great here in Seattle) and yes, the arches are original to the house. We couldn't have done the work without me constantly coming back here w/ questions and to seek out ideas. Thank you! Cabinets - Huntwood (WA State) Shaker style in "Linen" Countertops - Absolute Black Silk (or Satin) honed granite Flooring - replaced old linoleum w/ hardwoods to match the rest of the house (love that we did this) Lighting - Rejuvenation, ORB Appliances - GE and Kenmore Sink - Ticor S405 Faucet - Blanco Harvest Cabinet Hardware - Lee Valley, ORB...See MoreHelp 2 Different Granites. Comments (3)I think you mean "cabinet" colors instead of "can" colors. It all just depends-what is the desirability of the existing island..... counters come and go in the life of a kitchen. Islands being so much in the middle of a space can warrant some budget allocation for upgrades or complete re-do. The older amber or yellow-orangey oak is probably past it's due date and the whole setup, if that's what you have, might warrant serious scrutiny.Counters aren't really super cheap regardless of what you pick, so be careful of what is underneath as far as it's legitimate claim/or NOT, in your space. Comments (17)FYI, here are some of my inspiration photos. I love the red accents in this first one (my compliments to SoonerMagic--I hope it's OK that I'm re-posting this) but I'm just not sure if white subway tile might be too stark in our kitchen. Our cabs are white rather than off-white, there's no window above the sink and there won't be much painted wall showing. If we went with this color scheme we'd probably do something like BM Bennington Gray on the walls. Not certain if we'd use the contrasting grout or go with something whiter. I like how the beige-y backsplash in this 2nd photo adds a little more color to the room. Was thinking a subway tile in this shade might still work nicely with red accents (with paint in a similar beige shade): A third option would be to do a grayish paint (BM Gray Owl?) and go with a subway tile in carrara marble something like the one below (sorry--I'm not sure whose pic this is). The problem is I'm not sure that would coordinate well with the red in our dining room. It's also a cooler color scheme than I'd originally planned. Any thoughts? Our floors are hardwood, by the way--similar to the color in pic #2 or just a touch lighter. Thanks again for all the input!...See MoreAimee Chipps
