Comments (11)Well, each store had a couple of different varieties. Mooresville, being near the lake and therefore the richer community had the most. I don't know if that is a factor or not. They had 6 of the varieties that I mentioned. They also had some very large and pretty sagaes and fragrant bouquets which I didn't buy because I already have 2 of each, but it was hard to refrain! The Lowes on my side of the lake is near a ritzy neighborhood too and they only had 2 varieties. Karen I checked at the Walmart in Hickory and I saw a couple that had obvious HVX . They had several varieties all planted in 4 or 5 inch square, gray nursery cups, don't know if they have those in anyone elses neighborhood or not but they definitely had a problem. I always "troll" the same four area Lowes and I check for HVX, I have never saw any sign of it at them, however I have seen it in Homedepot Which is also in Hickory. I think they get their plants from Staceys nursery. The hostas I get at Lowes come from a nursery in Moncks Corner SC. I like to buy online too but I can't wait for the shipping dates to get here so I have to get my fix somehow!...See MoreIs it supposed to look this way??????
Comments (6)Hi, Sorry. I have to back Chris 100%. In my observations, this is a prime example of "Collapsed Tissue". I consider the bumps to actually be the normal part of the leaf that hasn't collapsed. As you look close at what is considered "bumps", it is actually the Collapsed Tissue that makes it appear as bumps. Take away the Collapsed Tissue and put in normal, there would be no bumps. Either way the bumps help for identification. Hope that makes sense. In the case of "frost damage", we should be able to see some browning on the leaf this late in the season. Yes, frost damage can be similar to your picture. However, I have not seen frost damage cover such a large area. The amount of frost damaged tissue would also be based on the substance/thickness of the leaf. I used my test strip from the convention to be positive on one with identical deformed tissue. The test came back positive, w/o doubt, in a few minutes....See MoreWho wrote this KT Poem...
