I'll start the Tea Time thread
Comments (22)Oh WOW....I haven't visited here in a long time....and gosh those raspberry tarts look oh so yummy. Are there any left? I did copy and paste the recipe and our r.aspberries are slow....ly ripening. Only the smallest handfuls so far. Many Thanks Nice to see so many familiar faces....er.... names. We used to have a small house like 800 sq feet (nice weather and a large deck helped) in the foothills of California. It turned into a second home for many years too, then bigger, now smaller. This 12 year residence is just under 2,000 ft, and I don't think of it as small....and on a 10,000 sq. ft lot. As we get older....it keeps feeling bigger, and harder to keep up. A constant "downsizing" seems to stress me every spring/summer. Love, love that blue cup, and Caroline (nice to find you here) just want to say the Pharmacy you are dealing with is no worse than ours....every three months I have to bite my tongue.....between gov't rules and so many "old" Pharms. closing here in So Or, ones patience gets stretched. Lucky me...DS has taken over that headache and knows one of the Pharmacists....problem solved.(at least this 3 month period, again.) Gotta try those cucumber sandwiches AAA....it has been a while and they sound so refreshing.....on sour dough bread???? That will be a first. Thanks for the invite....I'll be back again. Love that umumum alligator ? surely not a gecko or chameleon. I saw the first one EVER here in SoOr just a few weeks ago....and he was at least 10-12inches long and chubby-fat. (DH had dug up some of the sprinkler system to repair and may have disturbed him. I hope he continues to have a long and lovely life, wherever....See MoreUpping Tea Time to a New Level
Comments (31)LOL shades! It's perfectly OK to bring your hubby's dinner to him. It's YOUR choice to do so, and very considerate too! I remember reading an article years ago about how both dinnerware and portion sizes have grown over the years. We tend to fill whatever size plate we have, and we tend to eat however much food is on our plate. We had it ingrained in us as children to "finish your plate." I recently heard a piece on BBC about how much food Americans (and other first world countries) waste. Besides the food that is rejected before it ever gets to the supermarket, the study showed two things Americans tend to do. The first is over-buying. People stuff their refrigerators full when there is no possible way they could eat it all before it spoils. The second thing people tend to do is over-cook. They put more food on the table than the family can reasonably consume, and then they over-fill their plates. And a lot of people don't save left-overs like we used to. Everything left on plates/dinner table goes into the trash. And when folks clean out their fridges, they throw out a lot of spoiled food. Steph, I couldn't carry those dishes either, or at least not very far. We don't actually eat that way, with all the plates & bowls and flatware and glasses. I just set the table that way to take pictures for some Amazon reviews. Normally for us it's just a plate and a fork, lol. And our water bottles or a can of diet soda. My saving grace is that the sink is less than three feet from the table. :-) I really do love Correlle, though. Murraysmom, that's a lovely set you and your mom had! I grew up with Corelle dishes. When my mom got her masters degree, when I was about 15, my dad insisted she buy something nice for herself, which she never did. She said she'd like a new set of dishes. I thought she might come home with Noritake or something like that. Nope. She bought a new set of Correlle! She never threw the old ones out, and now I have them. I'll try to remember to snap some photos before they leave on Saturday. Maybe I'll regret giving away the new Correlle I just got. But I'm really trying to do this minimalist thing, and not keeping more than I need. And I honestly have no place to put them. So my friend Hannah, a newlywed, will have a nice Correlle set and if I ever want them again, they are so reasonably priced, I won't feel bad buying them again. Shades, one of the misconceptions about minimalism is that you can't have nice things or things that are beautiful. (I'm not saying you think think that, I just want to get on my soapbox, lol!) Minimalism is different from the "simple living" or "pioneer" movements. Joy and I are writing a book, "Minimalism and the art of the lovely home: Declutter, organize, and clean your house today!" I make the point that the book is NOT "Minimalism and the art of used lawn chairs and no art/beauty in your home." Haha! In minimalism, yes, you have fewer things. And everything you have should be used. But what is the definition of "used" or "useful"? If you look at something in your china cabinet and that brings you joy and pleasure, that is most definitely useful! We need beautiful things around us. Art and beauty enrich us as human beings. And who gets to define "art" or "beauty"? YOU do! If it's beautiful to YOU, it's beautiful. OK, stepping down from the soapbox now. :-) Steph, what's CFA! Wracking my brain. but can't come up with it. I rarely leave a restaurant without a doggie bag good for a meal or two. Can't remember the last time I ate out, though, lol....See MoreLeast we forget......it's Tuesday Tea Time
Comments (37)I do not have time or the energy right now to read through all the posts. Joe passed away Friday at 5:51 PM. I have so much to get done before I can get into my new life I am feeling a wee bit overwhelmed but I do have big plans for my future here and several fun projects to share with all of you and ask for advice. I just feel I need to get through the worst of it as soon as I can. Clearing out his clothes is so painful. And getting it done while I am still in shock and numb is probably the best thing for me. Then I will glam up my closet and start on all the other projects. I know Joe would not want me to be miserable. I have already been grieving for 3 1/2 years. We had a great 31 years and lots of wonderful memories....See MoreTea time :)
Comments (10)I've quit working on the free dresser from CL. It's not a quality piece and the more I look at it, the less I care about working on it. It will probably go upstairs and be decor. I swapped the round oak table for the little drop leaf. It's amazing how much more floor I have now. The stripper turned the table and chair into a money pit. The dresser is NOT this pretty in person. It says 1929 on the back of it. The pulls must be tin back plate and iron drops. They did not clean up. And I wonder if I have the drawers in the right order. Maybe that bottom one should be under the top drawer? I will check that out tomorrow. The thing is, the piece between the drawers is warped and I had to plane that 2nd drawer to fit. This is the order they were in when I got it. I made noodle krugel tonight. I got the recipe from someone on gw a couple of years ago. Noodle Kugel Spray the casserole dish 12 oz. flat egg noodles 3 eggs 1/4 C. sugar ( I use a sprinkle I don't like it so sweet) 2/3 C. Farmer's cheese 1/2 t. cinnamon ( I use more) 1/4 t. nutmeg ( I use more) 1/2 C. sour cream 1/2 - 3/4 C. golden raisins 1/4 C. butter Beat together eggs, sugar, cheese, cinnamon, nutmeg, sour cream and raisins. Cook noodles per directions. Toss noodles with half the butter. Pour egg mixture over noodles and mix. Put mixture in ceramic casserole which has been sprayed with Pam or greased with shortening. I mix the whole thing in the dish I'm going to bake it in. Less dishes to wash. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon. Dot with remaining butter. Bake uncovered at 350 F for 25-30 minutes or until light golden brown. Watch the noodles. I don't like them crisp/crunchy/hard. Best served straight from the oven but leftovers will reheat well in the microwave....See Moreschoolhouse_gw
