Growing melons and watermelons for the first time

Hello. So this year I decided to grow a musk melon and a mini watermelon(both Japanese varieties) on a trellis as I don't have too much yard space left. I have experience growing Japanese cucumbers and although cucumbers and melons are related I know they have different requirements. So to make it easy here are my questions:

1) Do melons and watermelons have similar requirements when it comes to care?

2) Do I really have to fertilize? I have never fertilized my cucumbers and they taste delicious every year. I guess my soil has plenty of nutrients already.

3) Is it too late to start seed indoors now? I just ordered the seeds and they should be here maybe in a week or so. If it is too late, can I start planting the seeds in the ground already in the beginning of May?

4) Are 2 vines per each trellis is good enough? Or can I add more

5) When pruning, you have to prune whatever vine is left above where the fruit is forming, right? So more energy can be concentrated on the fruit

6) And lastly, are there tips on making the fruit more sweeter? Sometimes I hear people say it tastes bland and stuff
