Autumn/Winter Rules & Preparations?
Comments (35)Charlie, Seems there's ads on every site including GW. I detest sitting, awaiting an entire commercial on YT before watching a vid or listening to a song. Seems like all grammas can grow a plant/s without proper care, and they do wonderful. My grand-mother had an African Violet in a ceramic, non-drainage pot, sitting several feet from a curtained window. Yet, it bloomed like crazy..perfect foliage..she never fertilized, and watered whenever. My friends mother had several plants including TC/Cc in butter containers. lol..Again, no drainage or fertilizer. Her TC/CC bloomed every year. I don't get it. I used to work at a plant store where we bagged plants despite size. We'd packaged w/brown paper called Sleeves. Sleeves were cone-shaped. The bottom of the sleeves had a hole which was set over a metel stand, then the plant was lifted and placed through the top of the sleeve on the stand. The remaining sleeve was rolled up to the top, folded and stapled. Sleeves are still sold, but usually purchased in huge quantities. Or were. You probably have NO idea what I just said..lol Yep, I think most teens want to grow One certain plant. lol At least your son was interested in the Bamboo..That's a start, right??? What type of bamboo is/was it? Have you ever considred growing from seeds/cuttings? If you have room for a plant stand/light, different plants can be grown..Or small plants like AV's, Episcias, etc. LOL, kneeling ovation. Did you save your music? Tossing something so personal would be difficult...comes from the heart. Hey, at least you came in second, even if it was to Crazy Harold and his Trombone..lol We're you embarrassed performing? In the beginning, Jim Morrison feared looking at the crowd. He'd stand towards the band, back to the audience. Well, if your plants don't care for your voice, strum instead..:) Welcome Tiff, Don't be shy, most people here are wonderful and very helpful. What type of plants do you have? Planning on adding? You'll get used to GW. Finding forums and information. After typing in gardenweb dot com, once the page opens, click on GardenWeb Forums. Another page will open listing all forums. Search for the forum you want to enter.. Eg: Houseplants, etc. On the bottom of the page is a Seach Box, and an option to search a plant in a certain forum or all. Check the box, type in the plant; several new and old threads pop up. It's nice meeting you. Hope you enjoy GW. Howdy Mike. Hope everything is settled, and you're well. Like you, autumn which leads into 'winter,' is a tad depressing. I've always enjoyed season changes, (fall leaf color, winter snow for Christmas,) but my feelings changed. Winter is gray, sunless and way too cold. SADS can be a real problem. Toni...See MoreHeatwave conditions where I live
Comments (6)Hi everyone, Conifer-nut - I live just a little south of Wollongong at a place called Shellharbour Village, so yes we aren't too far from each other, almost neighbours in fact. It's a little over a month now since the two heatwave days and the damage I was expecting, thankfully didn't eventuate. I have had remarkable plant recovery rates which I put down to using Seasol. (the "Tonic" not the fertiliser). I previously had a good result from using it after the 2006 New Year's Day heatwave and have used it monthly ever since and this time the results have been even more remarkable with the only losses being from two plants in a completely unprotected garden (pictured above) which gets sun from 1000 until 1500, and all except two of those are even putting up new pups. There are only two of those plants which I think I've lost from my whole collection, but that's pretty good out of a couple of thousand plants wouldn't you say? I can't sing the praises of Seasol highly enough, I think it's a marvelous product and would recommend it to anyone. All the best, Nev....See Morespring has sprung?
Comments (32)Hi, to you. Yes, I really like Beatline Nursery - the owner is the kindest person, and they are all helpful there. I called the antique roses place a few weeks ago, because several people here online recommended them. She was very nice, but said most of her business was done through mail order, and at the time I called her garden/nursery was still kind of a mess. She did offer to meet with me on an available weekend to help me make some rose selections. I haven't had time to take her up on it yet. I think it's going to take a long time for this area to recover from Katrina. We were in Long Beach and lost it all, so have just moved into our Pass Christian house in November. I have missed working in the yard so much, and seeing things bloom and grow, so I'm rushing springtime as much as I can - ha. How nice that you have an escape place near Pensacola. The Thanksgiving after Katrina hit, we were desperate to get away, out of the camper, so splurged and booked a condo with my sister's family in Perdido (Windemere?) They had a great holiday rate offered, so it wasn't a bad price at all. It was the most beautiful condo we've ever stayed in, but Ivan's wrath was still very apparent all around us. The highlight of the trip was taking a bath in the soaker tub (first bath in a real bathtub since Katrina!) and I was in heaven! (It's the little things - ha!) Thanks so much for your input!...See MoreFinnish laundry aisle (long post, lots of pictures)
Comments (34)@pawprint, I think the Ariel XXXL liquid has 72 washes and the biggest Omo bottle has 60 washes. The biggest powder packages have over 100 washes. But yeah, we don't get huge liquid jugs. The recommended dose is usually 50 ml for a load of laundry and as I usually use only 25 ml, my bottles last twice as long anyway. Omo is the best seller. Ariel and Bio Luvil come next I think. Like I said Bio Luvil and Omo liquids are exactly the same stuff. I see people buying Surf as well, as it is cheaper. The Rainbow color powder is quite good as well. It has four enzymes. @maylingsmom, Unilever's UK Persil is like our Omo, I think. The logo is the same and the small&mighty bottles are similar. In Sweden Omo is called Via. The products might differ, though. We don't get Henkel Persil....See MoreSaija_Finland
