Leathercraft vs Classic leather, Jetton or other leather sofas?
Comments (12)We purchased a Jetton sofa and loveseat a couple of years ago (after I read John's recommendation). Overall we have been pleased but the pieces required rework for (1)a small bulge in the fabric on the lovesear due to a poor trim job - done on site (2)two pieces of fabric used for the rear of the sofa which resulted in a pattern mismatch - factory finally replaced with a single swatch (3) a noticeable gather on one sofa back due to tension in the fabric - this required two trips to the factory to fix. It took 3 trips back to fix because both the dealer and the manufacturer did not fully inspect the pieces before sending them back. I had to finally talk to the owner(s) and to their credit they did address my problems. I like the construction techniques used. One curious fact is that the dealer did not advertise the brand in their store. Although the wood furniture had the brand name prominently displayed, for the Jetton line, you didn't find out who made them till you asked. (I had owned Jetton before)...See MoreIs permanent marker on a leather sofa hopeless?
Comments (42)Companies such as Guardsman do sell an ink remover which would take the marker off your leather sofa. The only problem is unless your sofa was previously treated with a leather conditioner it will tend to remove some of the surface finish to the leather. For example if your leather had a slight sheen the sheen will be somewhat altered making the area noticeable. If you had treated the sofa with a conditioner prior to marking the sofa then purchase Guardsman ink remover and carefully rub the area with a clean cloth using as little as possible. You might want to try this in a hidden area first. Although I have never tried this I have also heard the silicone spray applied to a clean cloth will remove marks from leather. It also depends on the type of leather it is. If it has a "painted" surface, a "protected leaather" it will more likely come out. A more natural leather with less surface protection will be more difficult to remove. You could try these methods but you may want to call a professional leather repair company who could easily remove the stain and refinish the surface if needed....See MoreCan I get your thoughts on these leather sofas?
Comments (25)Have you mapped out the size of those particular pieces in your room? They look rather massive to me and might be a bit overwhelming. You may do well to get the leather couch alone and a complementary fabric chair/ottoman set or loveseat to lighten up the weight/mass - I really wish we had done that when we bought our leather stuff, because even in the larger LR we had when we bought it it was still "too much enough already" to have big leather couch plus big leather chair/ottoman. Although I prefer their color, I think the brown pieces have a strange exaggerated shape to the arm that seems very trendy to me, not classic, and given how long leather furniture tends to last (and how stinkin' much it costs! LOL) I think it's far better to go classic. Also, with many leather-furniture companies you can have different leathers from just what's on the floor at the store. When we bought our leather furniture (Bradington-Young) we spent about ten minutes choosing the style and an hour and a half picking out the leather! :-) Other options like changing the feet, nailheads and nailhead colors, seat-cushion composition, etc. are also often available....See MoreLooking for tips to avoid sun damage to leather sofa
Comments (2)Looks like your leather has protection to the surface VS a pure aniline. That is the best for extensive sun exposure. Anything leather, or fabric will fade overtime when exposed to direct UV rays. If fading begins the color will begin to lighten where the sun hits it. It can streak and fade unevenly. Once that begins the leather will lose its softness and even could begin to crack. If you’re not going to cover your windows at least cover your sofa. You might want to take a look at this website for sunscreen products for your leather....See MoreiCustomSofa
