Thats about how mine on the North side of the house performed as well. They are beautiful and I love the scent. We lost a beautiful Hibiscus this year on the east side, but lo and behold, another Brunfelsia is growing literally out from under the roots of the hibiscus. I am going to try to get this new Brunfelsia to grow as full as possible. Right now, it's some leggy branches with some leaves and flowers, but I really need to get it to fill in some more. Any suggestions on how to get it going? Can I prune it to stimulate some growth in order to get it to fill in more?

The fragrance of Brunfelsia nitida does seem to be stronger and more piercing than that of any of the other white-flowered, night-scented Brunfelsias. But it could be that B. nitida produces a much greater quantity of blooms at any one time than does any other species, like B. americana and B. jamaicensis. In my experience, B. americana, B. jamaicensis and B. gigantea all have equally lovely, though slightly different perfumes, and all are much larger growers than B. nitida. All of them, at least for me, produce a higher percentage of green, leafy growth and put less energy into blooming than does B. nitida. But then again, all of my plants are still less than a year old, so perhaps they will become more floriferous in the coming years. I adore the scent of B. americana, so I hope so :-)

I see that nobody replied to your post, so I'll TRY to help a little. I really don't know much about this hoya except that the leaves are similar to kentiana and string bean hoya. I would think to treat it the same exact way you treat your carnosa. I would probably repot now because the roots should be IN something, not just out in open air. Also, pumice alone is really difficult to work with...it has no nutrients and you'd have to water quite frequently. I never had a problem repotting a plant before it had a chance to get used to my house. Good luck, Gabi
