what's do you think of this layout
Comments (3)Cute house! With nice detailing and built-ins, too. Looking at the plan, I thought I probably wouldn't do the crossbar part of the T, but, overall, as stock plans go, it's not a bad kitchen and has possibilities for making it very nice. (I'd add a prep sink and in the photos the stove and fridge look kind of crowded.) In 2D the T thing doesn't really come across, but looks kind of nice in the photos....See MoreKitchen Layout - What would you do?
Comments (25)*** Repost from the Appliance Forum *** My wife and I are building a new home. We'd like to invest in higher-end kichen appliances. We were initially thinking of the appliance setup below. I know, I know, before you say anything, we already know the price tag and is going to be very high. I am okay with spending this, if I am getting the ROI in quality, longevity, customer service, build, etc. I am seeing quite a few negative reviews out there on the Wolf/SubZero appliances which is concerning given the high price tag. I wanted to see if the group had a better setup or recommended changes that will still help us achieve the look we are going for - pro built in stainless steel look. If I could pick a budget ideally it would be good to stay within the $10 - $20k range, but that is flexible. I'd be interested in hearing from individuals that have owned or currently own Wolf /SubZero appliances. If you could do it over would you choose anything different? Is there a better setup in the GE Monogram or Kitchaid Pro Lines? Any recommended changes based on your experience or additional research? By the way our kitchen is a U shape the back wall ~ 15' and side counters at ~ 10'. We will have a center Island as well. White cabinets / granite countertops. Thanks in advance for the advice and feedback! * RANGE/OVEN - DF366 - Wolf Duel Fuel 36" Range * HOOD - PWC362418 - 36" Wolf Pro Wall Chimney Hood * MICROWAVE - MDD30PM/S/PH - 30" Wolf Microwave Drop Down Pro Handle * REFRIGERATOR - BI-42SID/S/PH - 42" Built In Refrig Side by Side with Internal Ice and Water - Pro Handle * WINE FRIDGE - 424G/S/PH - SubZero Wine Fridge with Pro Handle * BEVERAGE FRIDGE - UC-24R - SubZero Under Counter Fridge * OVEN - SO30PE/S/PH - 30" E Series Professional Single Wall Oven * DISHWASHER - SHX68T55UC - Bosch 24" Handle Dishwasher 800 Series - Stainless Steel * WASHER - EFLS617STT - Electrolux Front Load WASHER * DRYER - EFME617STT ELECTRIC front load DRYER...See MoreHow would you change this kitchen layout?
Comments (21)Here's an idea, assuming (1) you can make such drastic changes without too much added cost --OR-- (2) you decide to redo the Kitchen after you take possession of the house. Note that the opening b/w the Kitchen and Dining Room allowed for an island with seating. Don't skimp on aisle space around the island. Especially b/w the range wall and island and b/w the sliding door and island. Unfortunately, the island cannot be wide enough to allow for a prep sink and have enough prep space. (And, there is definitely not enough room for a Cleanup Zone on the island!) For the sliding door -- ideally, the side that slides open should be on the right. The tall pullout pantry cabinet b/w the refrigerator and wall provides adequate space so the refrigerator doors can all open fully for ease of access & cleaning as well as eliminate the risk of an open refrigerator door hitting the sliding door. Note that the counter and cabinets on the sink wall are 3" deeper than standard -- that allows you to have more "face room" in front of the sink as well as gives you more work room and storage. Counter is 28.5"D; base cabinets are 27"D, and upper cabinets are 15"D. You actually have plenty of space to add another 1.5" -- so 30"D counters. But don't make them any deeper since most people cannot easily reach any farther than 30" for cleaning. If you have a longer Dining Room Table, push it out toward the right. You need the 71" or so to allow seating at the table and island at the same time and still have room for traffic to pass b/w them. This is especially important b/c of the location of the Mudroom/Powder Room door. The range is on an exterior wall to make venting much easier (and less expensive). Cleanup Zone & Dish Storage are close to the Dining Room so it will be easy to set the table without getting in the way of those preparing a meal. It's also easy to clear the table -- a straight shot to the sink without having to maneuver around the island. The refrigerator and MW drawer are located so people can get snacks, drinks, etc., without getting in the way of those preparing a meal. It's also close to the Dining Room, Great Room, and outside and access to/from all those spaces is also easy without getting in the way of the cooks or having to maneuver around the island. Comments (9)Design Girl- The trash under the sink is a good idea if I can make it work. We have a garbage disposal and a reverse osmosis filter under there now. If I can fit them on the same side it might work. I would rather have a wider drawer base on the fridge wall and more storage there. I will ponder my under sink space. The 30" Whitehaven fits in a 30" cabinet. If I used a 27" cabinet and 25" stainless undermount, I would get an inch and half to the left without losing too much actual sink space. It might be worth it because I could put in a slightly bigger corner cabinet (34.5x34.5) which would have more precious inches to get things in and out even if the susan is the same size as a 33".. I will definitely consider this possibility. Good suggestion. The cabinet to the right of the dishwasher is 10", so not big enough for trash. It is all so dang tight. Though I guess it could be 11.5" or maybe cheated to 12" with the smaller sink base! Maybe I could fit the water filter in the back and a shallow pull out in the front? I almost never need to access the H2O filter. Thanks for the drawer # advice- I was thinking the same thing but have never lived with a three drawer base before....See Morebackyardfeast
