A) Longer Kitchen/6' Island or B) Shorter Kitchen/5' Island + Closets?
Comments (11)If you will be bringing groceries in through the garage entry, I would seriously consider making both the laundry, and the closets in the hallway, shallower, then making up for the lost storage by adding the closets on the kitchen wall in the second plan. Carrying groceries, laundry baskets, or anything else, down that hallway will be more comfortable with a little more elbow room. If you need the depth for the laundry, it could be recessed slightly into the bedroom behind, then bookcases could fill out the remainder of the wall:ETA, for the sake of safety, I'd rather see the fridge and ovens switched, so that there is landing space for the ovens on the left counter, and the oven is in less of a traffic aisle. That means the island would be more of a barrier between the fridge and sink, so I agree with placing a prep sink on the island, but I'd put it on the corner, to allow as much prep space as possible....See MoreYes or no to kitchen island prep sink? New kitchen layout help please
Comments (4)Unfortunately your original layout is more functional than the proposed. How about putting the table in the former kitchen space? Then I’d make a built in hutch in that area bumped into the powder room. Can you move the door to the sunroom to the mudroom? Then you can get some decent wall space in the former dining room for a new kitchen....See More“Matching” a kitchen table and kitchen island
Comments (0)For various reasons, I removed the island from our final kitchen plan. It was a difficult decision, but after time and thought, I’m positive it was the correct one. So now, as we wait for our project to really get going, I spend time researching how I want to go forward once the kitchen is complete and I’m ready to furnish it, primarily with a new dining table and some sort of island or work table to fill the space available in the working portion of the room. Today I came across this company and while browsing their products hit upon the idea of purchasing a “matching” dining table and island. In other words, choosing the same finish on both pieces. They have so many choices I think I’d be able to put something together to make me happy. https://www.vintagemillwerks.com/product-category/kitchen-islands/ https://www.vintagemillwerks.com/product-category/tables/ I haven’t thought too deeply into exactly what finishes I’d go for, but probably the dining table would have the same painted finish on the top and the base, and the island would have a matching painted finish on the base, with a wood stain top. I tried to look for photos of kitchens with matching dining tables and islands, but wasn’t able to come up with much. Am I not thinking about this correctly, because it seems like a good idea to me. Also, even though I’m sure to get feedback on the layout itself, it is definitely cast in stone at this point. I don’t really mind people telling me what I could have done better, but that ship has sailed. What I’m really looking for is advice, experience, pictures or opinions about the idea of matching a dining table and kitchen island. Thanks - Here are my final layout and finish choices for reference: (This is a picture I found online with Arlington Grey quartz and a very similar SS sink and cabinets)...See MoreCan kitchen island be moved closer to kitchen?
Comments (9)Only your contractor can tell you what this will cost.plumbing and electrical have to be moved. Once the island is moved, the floor will have to be patched. Just ask him for the cost and then you can decide if it up is worth it to you. The dumbest thing I did when we built was to ask my contractor about the cost to do something and he just said, “ that’s expensive”. Twenty years later I still wonder if he meant $1000 or $5000. If I had asked for a true figure, I could have decided if it was worth it to me. His idea of expensive and mine might have been miles apart or not. Find out the actual dollar figure....See MoreUser
