foundation planting help for a small yard
Comments (1)You just said it. The beds that you are happy with are good all summer long. Now for the foundation beds you could use some evergreens. Low mounded arborvitae or yews would work well with the dogwoods. Then maybe under plant with some rushian sage. If the azaleas are not working could it be because there is too much sun? If the area gets morning sun and shade in afternoon try looking into hydrangea. That would give more depth to your entry stairs. Check with your local nursery and show this picture. Tell them what your sun exposure is as it really does make a difference as to what will preform for you. Have fun with this!...See MoreFoundation Plant Suggestions Needed
Comments (2)I had to look up Lake Gaston's zip code and found that you are hardy zone 7B. For a Northern exposure in 7B, Some suggestions would be, Chuck Hayes Gardenia, Mulch well, once it gets established very hardy, little bother. Evergreen. Also, Abelia, which is very hardy. You can trim easily, not a super fast grower, very good plant, all varieties, mulch well, evergreen also. There are many conifers (small evergreens with cones) that will also fit the bill for you. Arborvitae comes in a small rounded form, evergreen, hardly ever have to prune them, they will be nice to add. You may want to consult a local privately owned nursery for some suggestions also. THey will know what is best in your area to plant there more than anyone, especially since you want low maintence because you won't be there a lot of the time....See MoreISO small house plan for rental house on slab
Comments (6)Robert Swinburne designed a cool house for this purpose. Someone built it and blogged about their experience. I don't have time to find the blog, but let me know if you're interested, I'll see what I can dig up. Here's a link to the plan: Greek Revival...See MorePlant Suggestions? Zone 8a, Eastern N. Comments (2)What's the "tree" that is there now? Maybe that can go to that left corner. FYI the shape you show on the right = a small shrub at most - the large shrub category covers ones a lot taller than that. Might work best to convert the small section of lawn between the house and the walk into bed, concentrate your planting there. At any rate I wouldn't line the walk with anything, rather have the lawn come right to the walk....See Morewaynedanielson
