Need ideas for a south facing brick wall.

The southern wall of our house has no windows. It's just one solid brick wall and it BAKES during the summer heat. I'm not sure why, but the bermuda doesn't really thrive here. My only guess is the actual heat and/or the heat causing the ground to dry out really quickly.

Anyway, I'm looking for ideas to plant there. Low maintenance and perennial are really the only requirements. Would some drought tolerant wild flowers work if I just plant the seeds and just never mow the 1' - 2' out from the wall? I'm not looking to create a flower bed, but I'm not sure how well they would do competing with bermuda right there without a barrier, even though the bermuda doesn't do spectacular right there. Perhaps some kind of shrub would be better.

The area gets full sun after 11am or so. There's a large silver maple to the SE of this wall that blocks some morning sun.

Any ideas are appreciated!
