Are these the larger, Siberian hamsters or little Russian dwarf hamsters? It matters a lot, because Siberian hamsters don't like living with others and will fight to the death once they reach adulthood. Even littermates and mothers and their babies will fight as adults. Dwarf hamsters, on the other hand, enjoy living together as long as they are together from the beginning. Dwarf hamsters are best kept in an aquarium with a screened lid. They like to burrow into the litter and crawl through paper towel tubes. Some will use a wheel, but most don't. Siberian hamsters need a wheel in order to get enough exercise. Without it, they get some type of paralysis. They like those little plastic houses to hide inside and shelfs or different levels in their cages for climbing. You can buy little chew sticks for them to wear their teeth down on. All rodent teeth grow continuously and they need to chew to keep them from growing too long. You can feed the packaged hamster mix, yogurt drops, bits of fruit or vegetable (not too much), and nuts. Also, for litter stay away from cedar and pine because they can be toxic over time. Aspen and recycled paper ones are safe.

You could just make a tray out of plastic, corrugated sign board to catch the mess that you could wash down after emptying it. A better solution, though not as easy, would be to fasten sign board panels over the sides of the cage with wire to keep the mess inside. I would also line the floor with it so their feet don't fall through. You could line the underside so they could still get traction from the wire floor. I've included a link to a website on building your own pet cages that may give you some ideas for using sign board, although the site is primarily about guinea pig cages. We had built one of their cages years ago for our piggies and the sign board lasts for years and is very washable, as well as being easy to work with. I don't think you'll have much luck training them to potty in one place. The larger hamsters are much easier because they usually choose one corner, but the dwarf ones just go wherever they are. Graywings - I suspect you are right. I am probably agonizing for no reason. I don't think cream will work as the storm windows are white. Also it will take a VERY long time to re-do all the trim. Windows need re-glazing and only the 3 attic windows have been done. It would take years before it all matched! In my subject line "exterior paint" turned into "exterior pain". How true .. I wonder why the BM website gives "complemetary colors" which are often not white. When white is the most common trim color. Maureen

This is a lovely room! In a small space continuity is important. Before you add or paint anything else, paint the daybed and both chairs a dark brown, British Colonial as mentioned above. This way you can add the color you want here and there. The table in front of the daybed needs to be higher, like a tea table height. Use the chest on the side. To make the daybed more comfy, add old fashioned wedge pillows across the back and then the big pillows on top. They are the best support and you won't even see them. https://www.amazon.com/Bolster-Replacement-Insert-Cushion-Perfect/dp/B011CZWYT6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542001435&sr=8-3&keywords=wedge+daybed+pillow&dpID=41J6VtPqM6L&preST=SY300_QL70&dpSrc=srch
